Editor's Note: I publish ctfisherman.com for you to share your fishing experiences. However, the website has become a friendly community for us anglers to talk about a variety of subjects. I recently asked my friend Ray Cook to write about terrorism. Ray is an avid fisherman and employee of a local water company. Below are his thoughts on the subject. If you'd like to write an article, please email me your ideas. -- Mitch Passero

America at War

This is in response to the three Middle Eastern men who were recently arrested at the Easton reservoir for video taping. (click here for an article)

Redwander Chowdhury had just bought a digital camcorder and wanted to try it out. Very innocent indeed. However, he decided to take his video skills to a public water supply. And he, along with his two cousins, thought that climbing a 32-ft water tower would capture the beauty of Connecticut, so that he could share this in his homeland of Bangladesh.

Under normal circumstances and living conditions, this act might have been overlooked or just seen as a simple trespass violation. Well, we are NOT living under normal conditions! When we (Americans) have to be on a constant lookout for devious activities from another race of people, it hinders our way of life.

We have been asked by the President of these United States to be vigilant and aware of what's going on around us. America is at war! And we are at war against terrorism. The people who are causing this grief happen to be Middle Eastern men.

So when Middle Eastern men happen to trespass and climb a 32-ft. high water tower to try out a new camcorder -- with disregard to civil laws -- then they should be scrutinized to the fullest extreme!

I do believe in racial profiling. I ask, "Who is causing world instability"? Middle Eastern people is the answer. So taking this into consideration, any person of that nationality should be looked on as a threat. Especially ones who decide to trespass on watershed property.

Redwander's father is crying about profiling and the fact that his son was detained for four hours. He was asked about making of bombs and anything alike. This might have seemed preposterous in years past, but I feel that today, we should leave no stone unturned.

Profiling should be a way of life until we can rid our society of this plague. I commend the authorities for their immediate response to such a serious potential threat.

When our way of life is compromised by the religious fanatics of a foreign culture, all steps -- even the extreme -- should be taken to ensure we will not succumb to their way of life. They will not dictate how we live.

Closing Thoughts
It is a sad day when I have to worry about stepping into a public place and be concerned for my safety. Is that the American way? Should I have to look over my shoulder every time I want to get gas, take a sip of water, or even go to a sporting event?

To me, it seems ridiculous that we allow this to happen on our soil.

We now have more serious threats that have been introduced to us -- suicide bombers and attacks on our nuclear power plants. So, should we just wait for these attacks to transpire before we come up with a solution to these problems?

I believe that it will only take a few bombings in the U.S. before Americans and alike will take matters into their own hands. I know I would. I do not want to live my life like that, but I might not have a choice.

America is the heart of this world. We promote a safe and free way of life, and if this is infringed upon, there is no way of telling what can happen.

Terrorists are on the verge of waking up a sleeping giant. We may have become complacent and lazy, but we have the capacity to destroy what we want, and history says we will do it! We are not Israel. Continuous acts of violence against our society will not be tolerated.

So if there are anymore Middle Eastern men who believe they can get away with video taping our reservoirs without concern, think again. If you ask me, Chowdhury and his cousins are very lucky more action wasn't taken against them.

For now, I only hope for our safety in daily life. I would like to fish without worry. Is that too much to ask for?
