We started out the day early around 7:30 up in the TMA. Had raised several fish, but was unsuccessful in setting the hook. After the action died down my father and I drove up stream to see if we could find some fish. My father got a nice brown and as did I. I noticed a rather large fish at the head of the pool. I could see it hitting small fly (I couldn't see what they were.) I tied on a dun it was about the same size. I had the solid hit and knew I had it. The fight was on. The fish took a couple of spectacular leaps, its magnificent silver body flashing in the sunlight. Then it sounded and sulked on the bottom for a while, as large fish will often do. I gradually increased pressure 'til it decided to come up and fight again. Back and forth across the pool it sped. But after a few impressive runs it gradually succumbed and I was able to haul it close enough to net it. It was a 15-inch grilse (a young salmon) it was a glorious specimen.
It was an amazing day. i wish i brought the camera.
