First trip of the year to the Saugy, and although short, it was productive. Fished from 4:00 until 5:30. The wind was howling from the E, so choose a fairly protected area. Action was fast, but all Smallmouth Bass; had 5 take-downs on slip bobbers, with 3 fish landed. One around 12 inches, the other two were good fish at around 3 lbs and guessing this one was in the 4 lb class(?); it was 18+ inches. All three fish jumped despite the cold water, and gave a great fight on 4-lb test. The two bigger ones were full of eggs; all fish released quickly back to the water, and hooked in the mouth with size 1 circle hooks baited with medium shiners.

Nice small mouth. Way to go.

If there are fish to catch. I'll be there to my end.

I had a jumper smallie myself in Godfreys Cove the other day. 3 landed in one day is more than i've ever heard of. I cant imagine where that was?

The big ones are good fighters, last spring i got one maybe around three pounds and it was fun. They are nice fish, I cant get into largemouth bass fishing (pardon me for saying i think they're too easy to catch, wore my self out on them as a kid i guess) but i could see myself targeting the smallies, dont know what it is about them that i like.

They are a good looking fish too.

Tight Lines!
