Now that I am done with BP I am getting my offshore boat cosmeticaly fixed up. I can not keep off the water so I got into my jon boat and soon found out it sat too long. I had the carb rebuilt on the evinrude 9.9 late 70's vintage motor and off I went. I ran about 2 miles to a favorite winter spot but the motor was not running as I thought it should. Did get 3 rat reds but I was more interested and worried about the motor. I checked the plugs that I thought were fouled and they looked new and the oil mixture being heavy as it was acting was not evident on the plugs. Today I pulled the plug wires and the other end that connects to the coil was full of (dirt, burned grease, or what ever). Cleaned them with Q tips and carb cleaner and gave it a try today.

It ran like a top. Off I ran at a blazing "life is good" speed. Just like I did as a kid. Must have hit 10 MPH! God rewarded me with a nice 20 inch redfish for my first fish of the day on my 3rd cast. It was a great day as I spent 1 and a half hours there and landed 3 keeper redfish 20 -22 inches and also released 8 14 - 15 & 1/2 inch reds. I also missed about 5 bites.

The toy ran good and the fish were cooperative.

I will not post this on the Offshore site but my buddy Lee had a great day with 6 yellowfin tuna over 100 pounds. I was scheduled to fish offshore but the people cancelled. OUCH! would have been alongside Lee

I can do it every day and enjoy it. Just like crabbing at night but it is all year long and at any tide or even on slack tide.

You have to get down here and see for yourself before I die. Not ready to yet so just plan for the trip.

Lee went out today looking for another big day. The bite was not there and the water color had changed. Needless to say he struck out today. That's why they call it fishing instead of catching.

From the reports I see on Bloodydecks.com the tuna bite is pretty good!

Still hoping to get down there sometime this summer. Might not be June. Will give you a ring this week.

The tuna and wahoo fishing is good BUT I am still looking over my shoulder as dead baby dolphin (flipper) are washing up. What effect has the toxic dispersant had on the breeding of the fishlife in the gulf.

Nice job Hoop applause

How's the topwater action with the reds? Seeing lots of YouTube videos and also Rapala videos, I'd love to someday get into topwater redfish action with Rapalas. Those X-Walk and X-Rap Subwalk are killers for them!

If bluefish were to grow as big as giant bluefins, then there would be nothing left out there except for blues!

Michael your rapalas would kill them. The redfish cruise the shallows looking for any movement along the banks and on the surface. A hot lure down here is the top dog.

Hoop, Some of the Captains, in the Keys are seeing the best redfish fishing they have ever had, along with many other species in big numbers... Captains at Bud and Mary's are seeing 200 fish days, which they have never ever had close to anything like that before..

They are thinking the fish are pushing that way due to the spill, any sign of less redfish in your area?

Not at all. It is due to the over regulating of the fishery. The red fish are a 5 per person limit and several days we C&R just to keep fishing. Then the day ends in 4 hours. Anything to blame BP. Not happening.
