JeremiahG was looking for a place to go kayaking on his way from Memphis to Jacksonville. He decided to come down here and see what it is like.
The first day we had to get a license and got on the water late.

I was showing him some of the places to go with his kayak. In the process we attempted to get some nice redfish. Almost at once I lost about an 8-10 pounder after a battle. From there on I nailed some small ones while Jeremiah watched. Late in the day he hooked up to a good one only to be lost to a bent hook. I got a glance at it twice and figure it to be 12 plus pounds. Tough day for us.

The only fish we ended up with was a nice sheepshead.

Day 2 I put him in an area that he could be on his own in his kayak and get some fish. He can take over from here.
First off, I would like to thank "Hoop there it is" for his hospitality, it's been great. That's what everyone down here says when they see him. It is a different world down here, "water world" would be a good name.
I launched the kayak around 8:30, earlier it was just too foggy.

The fog down here is crazy. I did not know what to expect on this trip, I never landed a redfish ever.. The first hour I was using a "cork" and gulp shrimp, nothing. Then I started doing what I know, bass fishing basically. Hell, I was using bass gear. I was in shallow weedy areas and started throwing a DOA Shrimp in pockets. Bam, first hit and I have a good fish. My first Redfish..

These fight quite well, they have surprising endurance. I was using both 15 and 20 lb braid and it cut through the dense veggies quite well. There was a lot of action in the weeds, fish jumping everywhere, so I decided to just focus on the weed edges casting a weedless Johnson spoon. I started getting into them..

Then a surprise fish, a Cajun Fluke..

Birds are diving for fish everywhere, including big goofy ass pelicans. When they dive for fish it sounds like a garbage can fell from the sky.

I continue to get some fish, however I lost a few. Landing these fish in thick vegetation is not that easy and the the weedless spoon I had didn't seem to stick, I lost 4-5 fish today, a couple were large.

I landed 7 redfish today, only 2 small ones - one is pictured, the rest were beefy. Here were the lures used..

After fishing some great seafood was had, I mean great. It was a good treat coming from the Memphis area where BBQ and fried chicken is king. I am sunfried and need to drink a couple gatorades.I only live about 6 hours from here, so I can see myself doing this again. I would highly reccomend giving "Hoop" a visit.
Tomorrow we are going for Trout in his boat, then atround noon I will be haeding east towards Florida. I plan on finding a campsite somewhere and fish the next day. I love these adventures...
