One heck of a relaxing day fishing here in Empire, La Topped off with kielbasa from Eddies Bakery on Mt Vernon rd. in Southington, Ct. for supper as I write this report.
Life "IS" Good!
It was a comfortable day and the wind had let up so as soon as I got done with the electrician, about 11:00 am, I loaded the boat up and headed out to play. Stopped for ice at the bar and picked up Charlie. This made his day. He loaded a 6-pack and was happy as heck that I asked him.

I am still trying to teach myself how to fish (INSHORE) without bait. Our first area was not productive but it gave me a chance to get set up. When I got to the second area I wanted to look at I hooked up to a nice 21 incher.

The ice was broken. I was trying various plastics but I know this time of the year a redfish loves gold. As I trolled around a point it opened into a pond and had a canal running behind the land we just trolled by casting to the land along the shore. I chose to troll and cast the canal. Just as I entered the canal I hook up and we have 2 in the box.

A little further down the canal one follows my line to the boat, makes a half hearted attempt to get the spoon and goes right back to the spot I lured it out of. I tell Charlie to cast right there and he does just that. The redfish hit it with a vengance. Old Charlie was hooked up. He pulled the fish out of the little notch directly below the first guide on his rod. There was one other playing around there but we did not get it.

He has a nice 22 incher for the box. In the picture above you can see the Empire bridge on the upper left. I live right there. The first fish came from behind the cut charlie's line is going through. All we do is get on the trolling motor and cast along the land which is lined with oysters. Thw redfish cruise it looking for small fish and crabs.

After a while I made a run to Buras waters and hit a point that usually produces. Nobody home today. I went into a dead end canal and just before the end I let the boat drift along the shore useing the big motor as a rudder to steer the boat. It was not producing and looked like a very unlikely place to find fish. After a while Charlie asks "you ever catch anything here hoop?" No sooner than he asks that I jerk the rod upward and say "YEP" I knew I had a nice one on this time as it was running out and taking a lot of drag. After a good fight Charlie does his thing with the net and I have a 28 1/2 inch 9 pounder to add to the collection.

We drifted to the end of the canal which you can see in the picture and only found rat reds.

Charlie only had 2 beers so far and he decided it was time for one at the bar so we ran back to Empire and called it a day. I fueled up the boat at the bar and had 2 sweet teas. Total out of pocket expense, ice fuel and drinks, for the 3 hour trip was 28 dollars. Loving this boat for sure.

Now I have to learn to fish. Actually I was on the west side and the guys are getting all thier fish on the east side. I have yet to take my bay boat there. Maybe before the New Year. Any way this was our box for the short time out there.

This will be it untill after Christmas but it is the kind of stuff that cures (CABIN FEVER).
