Here we go again!

We ran again in very dense fog again again this morning. At the first spot we nailed 3 nice wahoo. They shut off after that and instead of running to the next rig we opted to hit a shrimp boat near by that had some active birds on it. We were looking for yellowfin. There are big yellows around these boats at times. The problem is there are thousands of bonito on top, Then hundreds of blackfin with an occasional yellowfin hog cruising through.

It was not long before we had blood all over the boat. The blackfin tuna were hitting bait and poppers and all of them were very good size. The blackfin were stacking up in the fishbox and it was not long before the 3 wahoo in the box were not to be seen again until we hit the dock.

With the box nearly full it was not worth going out 20 more miles to the yellowfin target area. We hopped around looking for more wahoo or amberjack. I never saw so many jack crevalle in my life. The entire oil field was invaded overnight by these useless fish. We did try a sunken rig that held some monster red snapper that quickly went back unharmed but it also gave up 2 nice cobia to top off our box.

After finding no amberjack at all and the customers worn out we headed to the barn for another fish cleaning party.

Our box for the day contained 3 good wahoo, 18 blackfin tuna and 2 nice cobia.

Lee did make it to the spot we wanted to go and found 2 nice yellows at the end of the day. I am running again tomorrow and we should make the tuna grounds after we hit 2 places that yealded hog 80 pound class wahoo today. It is on our way and we will not waist much time if nobody home. Lee had to cut the tail of one yellow because the fishbox on the boat he was on was not big enough to hold the biggest tuna he caught.

Somthin' tells me your customer for the day was not too disappointed about not bagging a yellowfin. Sounds like a rewarding day Hoop.

Hoop,

Is Lee's fish box on the transom or in the floor? Wish I took some pics of Lee's boat as its pretty unique for a dual hull...
