Today we tried another new place. Although we found clean water it was just starting to come in and we hit about 4 places there with no success. We headed to the place we were yesterday only to find mud instead of water. We went out into the bay an fished some structure. Our first fish was a hardhead catfish. I wish things would go nice sometimes instead of starting out as a struggle. Our second fish was the bright light that seemed to turn things around.

After a photo opp he went back. Although there is no size limit here I could not see keeping that especially seeing we still had nothing to back it up. Our first fish in the box was a nice black drum.

After getting 3 sheepshead to go with him we went back into the bayou looking for some redfish. We got to where we were yesterday and the water was a lot shallower and nobody was home. We moved to another spot and found some fish. It was not long before we were adding to the box. We went through a lot of rat reds but some good ones were getting iced down. We also picked up 2 flounder for the box.

About 4:30 we headed back in and were back at the marina in 20 minutes. We gave away 2 reds at the marina for somebody's supper and the rest came with us. Our total in the box 8 reds, 2 flounder, 3 sheepsdead, and 1 black drum.

May not be able to get out tomorrow and Monday my brother wants to hit the casino for his 62nd birthday. He heads back to Connecticut Tuesday. I have had a great time with him this week and hope we do not have to wait another 30 years for a repeat of this wonderfull time.

nice fish, wish the ice fishing would cooperate like that so i can catch dinner too!! Quick question though.....how common are the freshwater drum and sheepshead? I've caught some sheepshead and bowfin in champlain, and have seen some giant drum there as well.

These are brackish and saltwater fish not freshwater. May be related but not the same.
