My bro and I headed up to Lake Umbagog for another paddle/camp/fishing trip with 4 others ! I started out of Ct and got to his place in Holderness, NH about 5 pm last Thursday. We then packed his Fit, and were off for a 2 hr drive up to Umbagog.
THE PACKED 14 FOOT We-no-nah FISHERMAN
OUR ADVENTURE PATH about 6 miles to camp
Site R18 on the Rapid River is the absolute best !
There were some campers at our intended site at 9:30 pm when we arrived at the mouth of the Rapid, so we paddled up about another 500 yards and bootlegged a site for the night. First we emptied our canoe, then of course had to fish for a little while.
Charles intended on sleeping " under the stars " , I put my mat and sleeping bag "under the stars" for about 4 minutes before I set up " the tent " . Well, He lasted 2 hours before they were so bad he asked to come into the tent ! Oh well.
Next am was the start of our daily fishing mission - on the water 5 am catching smallies after smallies in the
10" 4"-15" range. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday !
Water Temp about 75-77 all over the lake, and we caught most of the fish on Senko type worms wacky, and weightless Texas rigged, top water -Sammy was doing well, and the # 4 Mepps . Flukes didn't do it at all ??
Joe, one of our camping friends that has been doing this same trip with his wife for over 25 years. Fortunately my bro and I are on the " A " list !
Probably one of the biggest
Charles hammering them on the black back/gold rapala with the ice blue jigging rod set up
One of my chunkers
YEP, what are they thinking !
We probably caught 4-5 of these guys, too
Some various wildlife we found including 3 moose ! My running joke with my bro is there are no moose in NH.
MOMMA ! DON'T MESS WITH MOMMA !
At one time, we counted she was underwater fully submerged for 26 seconds eating the weeds !
This lil' guy doing the same
There were 2 of them with Momma .
Being they were up to their bellies in water, we ventured a little closer but they didn't even care we were there .
Of course EAGLES !

Evidently one of the trees on our site is a well known Eagle perch. Yep, ever hear of their tent being crapped on by an eagle ? Pretty cool ! Not yours, Paul D !
These little guys weren't scared of not'n !
Charles and his GF were determined to do a water rescue in the canoe. After some trying, they eventually went to shore where they could touch ground and did it. In the deeper water ,as fit as they are, they would need some serious practice to pull this off !
You don't see this too often

Our menu included custom omelets, marinated flap meat/corn on the cob, fresh greens salads, chicken ravioli/chicken sausage in a nice sauce, Ram/boar keilbasa, Moose chili, cherry cobbler, strawberry shortcake, Moonshine soaked cherries, OLD CHUB beers, and a variety of other "camp" food !
Another great trip up there ! I look forward to this next year !
