My wife thought I was nuts, as did the other lake residents watching us! Chris has a pic. of the ice and the Yellow. It wasn't a humpback but avoided the skunk! Oh yeah it was the maiden voyage for the little boat. I got it last May and just never used it. I will name her the Icebreaker!

Too bad its crappy weather this sunday. I would take my 14'er out of the channel you created. I saw it during lunch...

You needed me aboard for extra weight to break the ice..Plus my 6hp motor.

Ya know Craig, I planned on a nice easy row out to the spot but a small outboard would of done the trick!

"THE ICEBREAKER" I love it!
like Chris said, yesterday the entire bay was wide open, with about 30 or 40 ft of soft ice at the shore line. we thought it would be smooth rowing. WRONG!!!! the entire bay had 1/4 - 1-2 inch of ice, and the shore line was a solid 2 inches. it was real work getting thru, ive got a couple pics. then once we got thru that we hit the skim coat and "the spot" is about 3/4 of a mile away. rowing over a 1/4 inch of ice isnt easy. it was comical to say the least.

after reaching "the spot" we searched around looking for those Humpbacks. I did manage one male yellow on a perch champlain jig. Chris found an dead alewive under the skim coat of ice ,and was jigging that. we thought for sure they would tear it up. but no takers. theyre just not stacked up there yet. "YET"
Ive got a couple pics that im having a hardtime resizing. I'll get them up ASAP.
it was a wild morning. as always, great to fish with you Chris. cant wait till the next adventure! (maybe lilli this tues?)

Next time bring "Jessica", she'll melt the ice! An "A" for effort, anyway!! The former outdoor column writer for the Danbury News Times, the late Bill Lauf(a real fisherman and gentleman) used the same tactic for the humpback yellows during some of those mild winters back when and did pretty well as I remember.

I can almost taste the fish as I was driving by. I would like to give it another shot in the mornin. we'll see what tommorrow brings.
