When going down to the shore today, there were two barges and a tug in the area of Saybrook town beach. One appeared to have an excavator on board so I assumed they were dredging in the area. Later I saw the barge with the excavator and tug to the northwest (inside) the can at Cranes where the reef drops off. It made several paths back and forth then headed back towards Saybrook. Was this a dredging operation, and is that a discharge area for sediment? I've heard the Shool was a dumping area in the past, but never saw barges in a prime fishing and lobstering area before. Any info?

I think they're probably doing work in the Indian Town basin. Form the looks of it, it's an annual thing.

Not concerned about the marina dredging, is that a valid dump site?
