I hit the river this morning with hopes of catching some smallmouth. My hopes were faded with the drastic cold front the last two days, but it beats watching fishing shows on TV. I threw a keitech on a jighead and a Findbass paddletail grub but never had a hit. I knew better than to throw a topwater in these conditions but I couldn't help myself so I tied one on and stubbornly just kept throwing it. I hoped every cast would be "the one". I covered about 1/2 mile and fan cast the area. Finally, on about cast 763 my bait disappeared in a huge flush and I was tight to a very big fish. When she jumped for the first time I knew she was a big girl. She fought like a warrior in the heavy current and fast water. She sky rocketed one more time and made some powerful runs, but the steel was buried in her jaw and she soon tired and came to my hand. Laying your hands on a river bass of this size never gets old. She was 20" long and I'd say a solid 4 lb class fish. A few quick pics and back she went to her world. I hope to catch her or her other over weight girlfriends soon. If you only catch one...this is the one.
