Questions / opinions. I got the cabelas gift card ,christmas, went to bass pro,got the navionics east chip.i called humminbird prior to purchase.they said upload new software onto the 998 c hd di/si and the 798 ci hd di si before uploading the navionics.i purchased as a leg up for new resevoirs in Tn.the chip has the drawdown capability for depth offset etc. .my biggest questions are 1) split screen in a side find mode looks fairly simple.??? Dont want to waste a lot of time initially learning the capabilities when i could be fishing.2)talking to the guys on Tn Anglers , the overall preference for fishing ,not navigation, the most thumbs up seem to lean towards the navionics..aparently i need to purchase a 32 kb max sd card to upload updates from humminbird, the tech said to large of a card could cause issues.opinions, advice???

You need an adapter to plug the card into a USB slot on your computer, but once you have it the card shows up on your computer like any other drive that you can explore making it easy to delete/replace one update with a later one. I wouldn't expect Humminbird to release another update for these older models.

Check out youtube for videos on how to operate those units. Doug Vahrenberg's channel is fantastic.

Keith, check your laptop - it may have a slot for an SD card already. It can't hurt to get two SD cards. If you look on Amazon there are all kinds of deals for them, like buy 2 for $15, or get one with a card reader, etc...

Are you in TN already? If so, I think they give you a special depth finder when you get there! You take off one shoe, hold your nose shut, and then step in the water! wink2 laugh
