They're trying to pass a bill that would increase the sales tax on ammo to 50%!
Please call or write and say NO WAY!

I respect whatever party someone is affiliated with. Wouldn't be America or democracy otherwise.

That being said, the spirit of that proposed law is obviously punitive. Directly targets people that own and enjoy firearms for myriad reasons and financially punishes them for their interests.

That's a slippery slope right there. When you start imposing financial penalties for thinking differently, things can get pretty damn un-American pretty damn quick.

I sent this info to my sportsmens club. thanks for posting.
I would guess that this one will have more of a chance to pass than the town restriction one.
The anti hunt/ gun people in the legislature will get more tax revenue which will go to the general fund and evaporate.
think about it -- Uconn sports lost 40 million last year and there are no open bathrooms on the highways because they want to save money. Kind of makes you wonder does it not???

I started ordering ammo by mail back when I had to buy 2 5/8 sized shells for an old Browning 16g semi auto I have. I had to get them from Europe. That is the easy solution assuming you don't need them immediately.

So, in true democratic fashion, us the constituents need to email or phone our state reps and senators. Here is a good gov't site in case you don't know who that is or if you need their contact information:

https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/cgafindleg.asp

Now, send an email stating you hope they vote against this proposed bill i.e. - be active vs. passive!

Here's my email, feel free to cut and past if you want.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm writing as constituent within your district for support in voting NO to Proposed Bill No. 5700. Bill 5700 proposes a 50% increase in tax on ammunition. I am unaware of other sports, hobbies or recreational activities which warrant such an exorbitant and punitive tax increase. For correlation, would a 50% tax increase on painting supplies or baseball gloves be justifiable? If your answer is no, then you understand my point. Further, I feel as though a tax increase may ultimately harm the State of CT as savvy gun owners will look to purchase ammo in neighboring states (RI, MA, NY) or engage with mail ordering houses so as to bypass this onerous tax altogether.

Please, I'd ask you to use common sense and vote NO to Bill No. 5700.

So, that's about all we can do to help defeat the nonsense!

It's getting late, I'm tired... SHUT UP AND FISH!

The real solution was to NOT vote for the party that gives you gun control, animal rights and anti hunting.

You’re letter gives the impression they don’t know what they are doing.

They know it’s about gun control, plain and simple.

This is what I wrote to my reps sunday:
Quote:
In regard to the bill stated in the subj line that is being introduced by Ms Gilchrest and Mr Haskell I am firmly against. I am a legal gun owner and as a CT pistol permit holder I feel they are punishing us by raising the sales and use taxes by 50% of ammunition. I thought maybe it was in regards to our current state deficit but after reading their bill thoroughly it appears they are attempting to punish all in a hope to curb gun violence. I do not see how this will curb gun violence as those who use a fire arm with total disregard to our laws obtain their weapons and ammunition regardless. As a constituent of yours I feel they are taking our 2nd amendment a step back and ask that you NOT support their bill. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Within an hour I got the following response from Paul Formica....my only republican rep:
Quote:
Sir
Thank you for your service and this note.
I agree with you.

PF

As usual I haven't gotten anything from any of my democratic reps although I did request a reply. I also sent a slightly different version to the 2 authors of the proposed bill, Ms Gilchrest and Mr Haskell, and of course I haven't gotten any response from them at all as well. Below is the verbage I used for them. Feel free to copy and paste if you so desire.
