For you Alex Skolnick (Testament)fans. He makes a guest appearance on one track on the new Rodrigo y Gabriela album that came out today. If you don't know about them, they were in a Mexican metal band years ago and now are an acoustic duo where the girl does this amazing pecussion slapping her guitar while strumming at the same time while Rodrigo jams out lead over it. They really are amazing. On their first album they do a cover over Orion by Metallica. The track that Skolnick plays on is called Atman and is dedicated to Dimebag Darrell.
Thanks, I'll check it out. Skolnick is awesome. I just heard about Rodrigo & Gabriela earlier this year. Cool stuff. Anyone who covers Orion gets points right there.
I saw Testament in the spring of 08. Didn't get a chance to catch them this year. They're touring Japan right now. I'm hoping they do a few U.S. dates before the end of the year.
I ventured into NYC last night to see death metal originators, Obituary. These guys have been around since 1985 and I didn’t want to pass up a chance to see them.
They delivered what I expected – a wall of pure, driving fury. Great band to see live.
Overall, though, I'd rate the show a 6/10. They only played for an hour, which of course left out many songs you wanted to hear. Also, I would have loved to have seen them with guitarist Allen West or James Murphy, instead of the new guy.
It was my first time at this club (The Blender). Nice, small place to see a show. The floor was about the same size as Toad's, maybe smaller. And, they had some elevated theater seating in the back for anyone who wanted to sit. Here's a pic the band posted on its site earlier yesterday:
I took this picture from the pit. I also took some cool video clips, but the audio is just loud static from my cheap cell phone.
Tonight, they're playing at the Palladium in Worcester, MA for anyone up north who wants to check them out.
Unbelieveable show last night in NY City! This was our first time playing at the Blender Theatre and I found my new favorite club! This place is a great place to play and see a show! NY we really need to thank you all for coming out and making one of the best shows of the tour! We had a lots of friends show up and the party did not want to end until the sun was coming up!
What a beautiful drive we had coming up to MA this moring. The trees are all starting to turn colors and the temperature is starting to cool down! Worchester is a great city to play in and we look forward to our show tonight at the Palladium!
Here are a few vids of the show. Some better quality than others.
Couple things...first off, Sirius/XM has a live performance with Testament that they are playing all week. I believe it was done exclusively for Sirius. Check their website for details.
Second...did anyone see the lineup for night two of the 25 anniversary HOF show at MSG on 10/30. Metallica, Ozzy, U2, Aretha, and Clapton. Not all metal, but talk about a lineup. I hope to get down there!
Toxic twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry insiste an Aerosmith bust-up ain't happening. Post music critic Dan Aquilante reports frontman Tyler showed up for the Joe Perry Project gig at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza last night, and the shaggy-haired duo belted out their iconic "Walk This Way." During an encore, Tyler told the crowd: "The break-up -- it just ain't true."
