Sounds nice but you could make some major improvements with just a few items like floating docks, a new double wide ramp, brush cleaning to create better shore pull up spots, etc. There will be local opposition to this even though on first glance you would think it would be a great addition to the neighborhood. The argument will be that a better facility will draw more boats and more lake crowding. A classic "not in my backyard" knee jerk reaction. This will be especially true of those who live on the lake or have a slip at their town or private beach dock/marina. Anyway, the money saved from a smaller project could be used at Lattins Cove launch which really does need some major improvements for launching and docks.
Latest: DEEP to Hold Public Information Meeting March 4th Regarding Proposed Improvements to Candlewood Lake State Boat Launch Agency Sharing Draft Plans for Improvements to Candlewood Lake State Boat Launch in Squantz Cove on Candlewood Lake
Despite the cold winter days, the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) Boating Division is working to improve the Candlewood Lake State Boat Launch in Squantz Cove on Candlewood Lake in New Fairfield through a comprehensive redesign.
Without increasing capacity at the boat launch, DEEP is working to enhance the boater’s experience at the facility with Americans with Disability Act (ADA) improvements, a revised traffic pattern, new courtesy docks, addition of a toilet building and lighting, and widening of the ramp to promote the safe and efficient launching and retrieval of vessels.
DEEP will be sharing the draft plans on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in a virtual public information meeting. Go here for meeting registration details.
