My father and I took the boat out to Lilly on Sunday for a few hours from 2-5:30 to try for some smallies(and whatever else will take the bait)

I used a Shallow Runner Shad Rap and got a few Crappies, rock Bass, and largemouths but nothing of any size. My father Worked with a grub and had similar luck. As we went on the wind picked up and made the light tackle tough to fish so my father switched to a spinner bait. After a short time my father landed a couple of smallies and a largemouth . After watching him catch a few fish I decided to give the spinnerbait a try too. I managed one Largemouth till we got into a shallow cove 8-15'.

I then Hooked into something Solid and quickly new it was a decent fish. Turned out to be a nice healthy looking 2lb 15oz Smallmouth. I tried to weigh and get her back in the water ASAP because I saw she had a nice belly building on her. All in all it was a nice fish, healthy release and a fun fight. It came in fairly easy but when she saw the boat she made a bunch of runs (gotta love the sound of your drag ripping). I guess the fish are starting to sit over the beds now, When I was golfing we saw a fish on a small pond at the golf course protecting a bed.

All in all we had fun catching a bunch of fish totals we probably 4 crappie, 8-10 rock bass, 7 largemouth, and 3 smallies.

Hey can you pull the boat up to that tree my lures stuck again.

Hey Treeman nice report. Sounds like Lilly is starting to pick up a little. It's great that you caught all those fish. Were you fishing in the Spepaug? I'm going out on Friday either Bantam or Lilly, haven't decided yet. I haven't seen any reports coming from Bantam for bass as yet so I may go to Lilly. Based on your report it is sounding pretty tempting. See ya later.

Yeah my father always likes the grubs I am still trying to experiment a little since it's my first time yeah on lilly during the early season. I tried some tubes last time out and hit a couple largemouths but I have to get lighter leadheads for the next time I think the heads I have might be a hair too heavy. We'll be heading out a lot in the next few weeks so I am hoping we catch some more nice sized ones. I am gonna buy a digital camera too I am getting tired of not getting pics of these Bad Boys!

Bob When you fish grubs do you bounce them on the bottom or do you just swim them? We usually bounce them but I was watching in-fisherman a few weeks back and they were swimming them. I have noticed catching them once in a while just retrieving them but never really fished them like that the whole way.

Hey can you pull the boat up to that tree my lures stuck again.
