I know that area very well! My bro has 11 acres and rent out 2 nice singlewides and pays only $500/yr taxes. Taxes haven't gone up in the last 5 yrs. less taxes because of less infastructure to maintain. Less roads, electricity, amounts of pupils in schools. It all adds up. He lives in Pilot 19 miles up on the blue ridge mtns. Beautiful and quite. When I visit its great to go into Floyd for breakfast at the blue ridge restaurant and chat with the locals. Nice people. Lots to do the blue ridge parkway. Mabry mill. The New River to fish. The fishing liscences are a little different. You buy a regular one. Then if you want to fish a special stocked one you have to buy a special stamp to fish that particular one. Ive seen the Roanoke star. Mill Mtn discovery center. Bent Mtn. Lots to do. Actually my bro redid one of his singlewides real nice inside and he's looking to rent it out. You may have a possibility. Here are some Blue Ridge Picts.
Moved here for a 4 month contract job in nov of 2007 and still here. Still have a house and what's left of a marriage in Dallas and now I'm taking a transfer to PA. I just can't afford to buy a house in this state and save for retirement at the same time. It's a great place if I could afford it and it's a billion times better than Dallas. Hated that place. PA doesn't look too be to fishing friendly where I'll be living which is going to suck.
A lot of people when they retire leave Ct. Taxes would devour retirees savings so fast its not funny! That's why you see a lot of Fla. plates grandparents visiting family during summer. I can't fault them for leaving.
My wife want to move south ASAP. I told her we should wait until the grandkids are both off to college, which keeps us here another 3-1/2 years. My wife wants Florida -- lots of friends and relatives there already. I personally don't like it there, although I'm sure I could adjust. I'd miss Champlain for sure though.

The wife and I are planning to move to VT as soon as I retire... which couldn't be soon enough for me... however, that's still about 10 years off... I'd love to move back to Maine, but it would be too far away from the kids..
I miss my Uncle Lewie....However; I know he's with me on every fishing trip.

You can take what you want from life......As long as you give a little Back. "We never get over the fishing fever, it's a delightful disease and thank the lord there is no cure". "CTF, is a lure I can not afford to NOT have in my pocket"
Don’t argue with Idiots.. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Our freedoms are being choked, big brother's grip is getting tighter.
