After living directly across the street from the Norwalk River for almost a year now, I figured today was a good time to check it out. It was good to cast a line, instead of drilling a hole.

I found a few nice looking pools, but didn’t find any willing trout. I tried spinners, and even drifted some left-over spikes from yesterday’s ice-fishing. However, I did see one fish rise on a bug, giving me hope there are some fish in this section of river.

I know there are some good trout waters in areas upstream from where I live (Wilton/Norwalk line), but it’s nice to know I’m within walking distance to some kind of fishing.

I’ll see what I can find after the spring stocking. I’ll be back with waders. \:D

Here’s an interesting website with a pictorial tour of the Norwalk River, from its source all the way down to the Sound: http://www.norwalkriver.org/norwalkriver.htm

Here’s the section I explored today:

Mitch, I worked at the old Wilton Perkin/Elmer/SVG at 77 for eight years, 94' to 02'. Every year myself and a guy I worked with would take a half day and start right out front and wade down maybe a mile and a half. Always got at least one or two rainbows a piece.

I don't fly fish so we used ultra light spinning set ups and caught them on spoons and inline spinners.

Never caught any monsters but at lunch we would go out to the bridge in front of the building and see a few big boys swimming around.

That was a pretty sweet deal having that kind of access from work. Keep your eyes peeled for deer drinking at the water. Another perk.

Don't be afraid to throw a big bait this early. Next time try some WHOLE night crawlers. Put one on a #8 hook (just once through and let it hang)with a bb shot about 4 inches away. Pitch it upstream and kepp up to the drift with your retrieve. Early trout will drill a big meal. They are HUNGRY!!!! ;\)

Mitch, the state loads the Norwalk River with a lot of trout. I have had 30 fish days there with fathead minnows. I usually fish the Georgetown area but anywhere they can pull the truck over they stock it.

I helped stock so many places last year half the time I don't know where I was but I remember that we dumped some beautiful tiger trout into the Norwalk River. It got stocked real good with browns as well.

I fished last year at the little league field in Wilton. Saw some very large breeder trout in there but could not get them to take my fly. You should try that area.
