Without trying to stir the mud up here too much, that photo to me is exactly the reason you need a fish like that weighed on a legitimate scale. If I only had that photo to go by and nothing else - I would not have thought that bass could make 10. How many of us would even have a fish close to that to reference from anyway?

Dusty - Where can we find the most tumored bass in CT ;\)

Jighead,

I'm sure someone in the DEP fisheries division could give you the information you're looking for. I have to believe that they're collecting age data to be able to propose and eventually assess their bass regulations.

At least for these lakes they should have age data, von Bertalanffy curves, have bootstrapped variances and anything else you might want to look at.

Give them a call.

Do you fill all the cm groups when you choose which 50? Can you post the model equations or at least the raw data for us to play with?

ill toss a twist in to the debate. on thread page 38 richz mentions paul caruso and the 11 4 he caught in 78 on moodus. paul(who passed away 2 years ago) was a good friend of mine who helped get me interested in collecting old fishing tackle. he owned and operated a tackle shop for over 30 years. most of them in the clinton/ westbrook area. his 11 lb 4 oz bass hung on the wall in his store. sadly the last time i visited paul before his death the fish had fallen and the tail had broken off. according to paul the state record was a florida strain. that in 1960 the guy who caught it had a neighbor who was a fisheries employee who wouldnt squeal on him because he was his neighbor. the neighbor, who paul knew either at the time of the record or at a later time claimed the fish was frozen, driven to ct and recorded. i never debated the story with paul so i never asked him his sources name. of course paul wasnt biased as he claimed to any one who would listen that his fish was the unofficial state record. dusty, did the state retain scale samples from fish that far back? would they have collected scales from a record fish back then? too bad we couldnt "csi" the evidence and test the validity of pauls story.

Dusty, you made it sound like you have the data ("we") so I figured I would ask.

Mattmann7...If the fish was a Florida fish the scale would be virtually useless for aging. Aging scales in warm climates doesn't work as well as it does where you have a more drastic seasonal change.

mycept i was interested if the record basses scale samples existed and in finding out if my friends story was bs or not. to see if in fact it was a florida strain as he claimed. just putting it out there as a hypothetical. i doubt anyone has reason enough to challenge the validity of the record. especially based on a second hand story. if he wasnt bsing it would sure be nice to see him with the record.

I do, but im not at liberty to give it out. Plus i have not run the stats or pop-dynamics. Best if you just contact DEP themselves.
