DUI Arrests

On July 20, 2013 at 1:45 P.M., officers responded to Harkness Memorial State Park for a complaint of an individual driving erratically in a closed area. Upon contact officers believed that the young male driver was operating the vehicle while under the influence. Officers conducted a field sobriety tests and based on their observations arrested the operator for driving under the influence of liquor and or drugs.

On July 27, 2013 at 11:45 P. M., officers responded to Hammonasset Beach campground for a complaint of an operator driving a motor vehicle that had backed into a sign and a tree. Witnesses also observed the operator get out of the vehicle and urinate on an adjacent dumpster. The operator was located by officers at a camp site and was later identified by witnesses. Evidence was found on the vehicle and the operator appeared to be intoxicated. Field sobriety tests were at which time he was arrested for driving under the influence and unsafe backing. The accused was then released after posting a bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 14, 2013.

On July 28, 2013 at 6:00 P.M., officers were patrolling Rocky Neck State Park when they observed a male operating a vehicle into a closed area near the beach entrance and concession stand. The operator smelled of an alcoholic beverage and failed field sobriety tests. The operator was then arrested for driving under the influence and released after posting his bond.

Illegal Spear Fishing

On July 15, 2013 at 3:00 P.M., officers conducted a patrol of the shoreline area near the Seaside facility in Waterford. Two fishermen were observed diving in that area of the rock jetty. Officers conducted surveillance from a distance to determine if any illegal fishing activity was occurring. During this time the two accused were observed spearing and cleaning striped bass and tautog. The men made every attempt to hide their illegal fish and spear gun from plain sight. The officers kept a close watch on their activity and apprehended the two fishermen as they tried to leave the area. A total of four striped bass and three tautog were seized. Three of the seven fish were less than the minimum legal length.

Motor vehicle accident investigation

On July 5, 2013 at 7:00 P.M., officers responded to Nehantic State Forest in Lyme for a serious one car motor vehicle accident. The operator of the pick-up truck was travelling from Keeney Road into the forest lost control and crashed the truck. All four occupants were injured, two with serious injuries. Life Star was called to the scene to transport one of the victims. State ENCON Police and State Police CARS unit are currently investigating the accident. The vehicle was seized as part of the investigation.

Western District

Fall Off Waterfall In State Park

On July 02, 2013, EnCon Police Sergeant Chris Dwyer along with officers Erin Crosmann, Tate Begley and Granby Police and Fire rescue units responded to Enders State Forest, in Granby for a report of a male who fell off the waterfalls. The male victim was transported, via Lifestar, to Hartford Hospital for medical treatment. The male fall victim suffered what turned out to be non-life threatening injuries.


Boating Accident

On July 20, 2013 EnCon Police Sergeant Keith Schneider and Officers Jeff Bruno and Keith Williams responded to a report of a boating accident on Lake Lillinonah in Bridgewater. Two personal watercrafts collided on the lake resulting in injuries to two victims. One victim sustained minor injuries and the other victim with a compound fracture and chest injury. Both were transported to Danbury Hospital for medical treatment.


Suicide in state park

On July 20, 2013 EnCon Police Sergeant Keith Schneider, Officers Ed Yescott and Keith Williams along with Simsbury Police and Fire personell received a report of a suicidal individual in Talcott Mountain State Park. A search of the area was made and the victim was later located deceased after he apparently jumped off the cliff on the west side of the park.

Park violations

During the month of July EnCon Police officers in the Western District handled 81 alcohol violation incidents in Indian Well State Park, Kent Falls State Park, Black Rock State Park and Sherwood Island state park. Officers arrested and evicted 71 people from the parks for the violations.
In addition to alcohol violations, EnCon Police officers handled 41 disorderly conduct incidents which resulted in 15 arrests.

Boating enforcement

During the month of July EnCon Police officers in the Western District handled 74 boating incidents which resulted in 35 arrests and 24 written warnings.
