Reckless snowmobile operation

During the month of February, officer Vroman received a complaint of two individuals riding snowmobiles in Quaddick State Park in a reckless manner. The complainant believed she knew the operators and they intentionally were trying to scare or intimidate her and her young child. The snowmobile riders drove in circles around the complainant passing within a few feet of her. Patrol checks were conducted in the area in the following weeks and during an interview the suspect admitted to riding in the park with his young son. The suspect, a neighbor of the complainant, was charged with operating an unregistered snowmobile and operating on state property.

Hunting / Shots fired complaint

On March 8, 2014 Officer Lindo responded to a complaint of shots being fired at a residence in Hebron. State Police also responded because a neighbor had been hearing shots on and off for about an hour. Once on scene, officers heard another shot come from behind a gate of the residence. Officers saw the suspect throwing food onto his yard and when asked about the shooting, he admitted to shooting two squirrels with a shotgun while they were on his bird feeder. The suspect was charged with hunting without a license.

Boating accident

On March 2, 2014 Officer O’Brien responded to assist Old Saybrook Fire and Old Saybrook Police departments with a boating accident. A sailboat ran aground off of North Cove after it broke free from its mooring North of the Old Lyme Draw Bridge. The vessel sustained damage to its mast as a result of the collision with the fixed bridge sometime in the middle of the night and continued drifting south. No injuries were sustained by the lone occupant. The accused vessel was last registered in 2010. The owner of the vessel was cited for several boating violations.

HRSI Unit assists Shelton Police in murder investigation

On March 15th a 15 year old male was shot and killed in the town of Shelton.  Shelton Police, CSP Major Crimes Unit and the Milford State’s Attorney’s office initiated a murder investigation.

The area where the shooting took place was a wooded residential area.  Initial assumptions were made that the shooter may have fired several rounds from a rifle.

Due to the fact that the terrain involved was wooded, the State’s Attorney’s Office and Shelton Police requested the assistance of the EnCon Police Hunting Related Shooting Investigation Unit. (HRSI)  This request was made due to the expertise of the HRSI in investigating shootings in wooded and outdoor environments.  Sgt. K. Schneider, supervisor for the HRSI responded with a team of HRSI investigators.  After conducting a reconstruction of the scene the HRSI investigators were able to identify the type of weapon used in the shooting, which differed from the initial determination made by the other investigators.  The HRSI completed their investigation and turned over their reports and supporting evidence to the State’s Attorney and CSP for further action.

Any April/May highlights? I love to see how stupid people can be and how hard encon works.
