Center Hill res.,Tn - 10/31/18 10:03 AM

We finally got the boat out on a big lake.after searching for a launch that wasnt dry , the tva has been working on the dam for years, the lake level and generation schedules are useless.fished for hours ,massive schools of shad on the sonar in 40 60 ft.of water.once they go up the creek arms im told the spotted bass bite is crazy.we finally found some hungry ones (navionics, bend in the river close to a point) no bass but tons of shellcrakers. .went yesterday with a friend of the wenches to try the caney fork.we caught no trout...just long nose gar! Saw some giant trout in the tail race...no takers.
...Cordell Hull next week.more stable/ predictable water levels.

.not a clue why the shellcracker pic is blacked out.? Couldnt get my hand around them, big fatties.

Cool, I have fished there a few times before. Mostly in the summer when the Cumberland river is quite warm the stripers will come up the Caney Fork River for cooler water. The actual reservoir is tough to fish, definitely need electronics.

Aparently the dam base is on limestone...natural ph issues are undermining it ...army corps of engineers...they are not real popular around these parts.

Cordell Hull dam.The TVA puts out out the red carpet for fisherman here, yes those are rod holders welded to the wall..stripers going crazy across the river,we picked the wrong side today...40 minute drive to the other side.

i lost a monster channel after a 10 minute brawl...guessing it was 12/15 lbs.hook wore right out of his mouth.7 drum landed, biggest 10 lbs...wench did well heavy current.

TT we,re ok.went back to cordell couple days ago the lock side.water was brown, need to start checking Kentucky weather prior..talked to a creel clerk in a boat they work for the bioligists, questions: what is primary species your after ,how long have you been fishing today, how long are staying,he got out of the boat to do a bucket check ,we had a bunch of bluegill we were using for flatheads.do you support the twra resources by purchasing licenses?,yes .he.could not actually check us cuz he was not law enforcement.interesting.
no cats no sauger just bluegill and damned gaspergoo.

Good shot on the doe. That buck you got on the trail cam is a bruiser. Racks like that will make you forget Ct. in a heartbeat.
Nice fishing spots you have already got figured out. I want to see some walleye or sauger pictures.

Re: Center Hill res.,Tn - 11/24/18 04:01 PM

We are working on the sauger...there is a learning curve.hauling a boat to the tailwater launches can be a issue...there aint a straight road in this state.the tva launches are imaculate...water levels and releases are a issue, tva issues release schedules. Im on the fence still for acuracy...haul a boat70 miles and find water levels low..dangerous for newbies...next year ...checking out these tailwaters from shore for now.watching other guys in boats, observing.going to dale hollow next week, fed trout hatchery there and a stocked stream on the federal prop. And the Obey below the dam...all new very interesting and travel we see small rivers everywhere water is always blue green..a bit overwhelmed now.

Re: Center Hill res.,Tn - 11/25/18 08:06 PM

The water color is probably limestone. Nothing better for a trout stream, it is a required element for shell development for any kind of crustaceans. Science is the art of observation. You know how to do it.

...this is the calfkiller river ,reasearched the name aparently back in the day 1800,s there was a brutal rain and flood.farmers moving livestock to higher ground lost a lot of young of the year driving them across the river...got more river names to research " Obey,Obed and Clinch...found this tiny little civil war cemetery on the calf killer..." down in a" holler"...sad place..
this poor soul, yankees raped his wife and daughter killed his young son.Champ turned guerilla as a captain, along with 30 + native tn natives did a lot of damage...they caught him after the war, tried and hung.his last request " to be buried in good rebel soil" suprisingly the federal troops allowed .Here he rests...a sad reminder of a terrible wound on our land.
