From DEEP

The return of the Seeforellen strain Brown Trout! This fall, we plan on stocking nearly 6,000 seefs, which will be close to 14 inches in length!

This special strain of Brown Trout has not been stocked during the fall in Connecticut since 2016 when they were discontinued from production due to staffing, space, and budgetary constraints. Seeforellens will be stocked into 7 lakes total (Long Pond, Highland Lake, East Twin Lake, West Hill Pond, Beach Pond, Crystal Lake, and Squantz Pond) where they will provide late fall and winter (through the ice) season fishing opportunities.

In addition to providing good access to fishing, these suite of lakes were also chosen because they provide a better opportunity for Seeforellens to “holdover” and grow to a larger size. In the past, our studies have shown that this strain of brown trout can grow to sizes larger than 20 inches when they holdover in Connecticut Lakes! So, please (drum roll anyone) welcome back the Seeforellens. Coming to a lake near you!

I caught a beautiful 28” Brown Trout at Cedar Lake a few years ago wade fishing opening day with Rich/TheFishMan while PDona and his Dad were trolling around. It was awesome to catch a Great Lakes worthy trout in CT after spending 17 years long ago fishing the Great Lakes fishery living in the Buffalo suburbs. Caught it on a Thompson Buoyant Spoon (gold body with red, yellow and black spots). Awesome fight on light spinning rod wading and borrowed a net from a fellow shore fisherman. Posted it on here, but think all those CTF post pics have been wiped clean.

good to hear , they are great for drifting shiners over. Great fight and get over 20" pretty quickly. Catch and release so everyone can have fun catching them.

They did not stock Black Pond in Meriden, that list Jighead posted was that mammoth stocking back in 2014. The list of stocked Lakes is in the DEEP notification I posted.

Hopefully they will holdover in W.Hill I heard they reintroduced smelt there. Cousin of mine still night fishes there. When I was a kid i'd routinely see huge trout on the shoreline in the early Spring. Hopefully it will work out.
