WESTPORT, Conn. (WTNH) – Westport police are searching for two missing men after a small boat sank near Cockenoe Island Sunday afternoon.

A boater spotted a man standing on a navigational buoy at 4 p.m. on Saturday and alerted police, who retrieved the man from the buoy. Police then rescued a second man and a woman from the water.

The three individuals were transported to a hospital for evaluation. After retrieving a translator, police were able to learn that there were a total of five people on the boat when it sank.

Missing = dead, sadly.

Saw this last night. Sad, very sad.

Yesterday afternoon the wind was substantial. Must have been a washing machine out there, especially on that reef. The one guy is luck that there was even another boater out that there that spotted him on the buoy.

I agree, the two missing probably did not make it.

Be safe!

Looks like the boat is at Compo.

The engine cowling is missing, perhaps suggesting they had engine trouble?
Sadly there were PFDs still inside the hull.

That's why they recommend wearing PFD's from labor day to memorial day. I prefer to always wear my inflatable even a nice sunny summer day.
