Crossbow 9 pt buck

Crossbow 9 pt buck - 12/08/19 11:30 AM

I have been hunting hard this season with 60 + hunts many all day and only one Mature buck seen on stand early season and luckily that one went home with me. I've been passing many 2 year old bucks, doe and spikes. We have rifle permission here but deer have been coming through too close to the homes to use it.
I Had three small deer come through in the dark, then while it was still dark had a big bodied deer come to the edge of field following the deer trail but he just stopped and looked into the field and turned around a walked away. Little while later heard one walking below me and could see he was a good buck. At the first opportunity I shot, dropping him, hitting spine.. took a quick follow up shot and he was done.
Buck is pretty thin and no fat at all weight was 175lbs dressed.
I used the CenterPoint crossbow with Rage Hypodermic style Broadheads.
I'm running 11 camera's in this area and I only had three nights of pictures of this buck, one picture early season and only pictures two other nights down the road and across the street from there.
So we need to remember not to base hunts on trail cameras alone!

Very nice buck - congrats! I thought it was slow around here due to the lack of acorns but I see there's plenty on the ground there.

Congrats on another great hunt! Issac Trail cameras are like hoof prints they show where a deer has been. You have to be where they are going to kill them before they put the print down or pic. Another Great buck for you. Congrats. Putting so much time in has paid off for you. You are truly blessed and dedicated to be able to put 60 hunts in so far this season.

Great Buck! Such a good point on trail cam usage. I've learned in the past that trail cams just show a very small percentage of what is actually happening in the woods. Hunting, scouting and going back to the basics is more important than what is showing on the cams. I have a cellular cam on a small property in Lebanon which went ice cold in late October. Figuring the deer had moved on I gave that property very little attention. I went there one afternoon and noticed that the deer had just been using a different route. Switched my trail cam location about 100 yards away and I have had deer on cam nearly every day since.
