Coyote Down - 03/11/24 11:55 PM

Took a Coyote behind the Chicken Coop.
Used the Savage B-mag .17 WSM

She jumped up flipped over and was finished in a few seconds.
this is the first Coyote with this gun.

A lot of Coyote around.
We hear them howling nearly every evening if we are outside just before dark

Very light colored!

I see quite a few when I’m over your way in Meshomasic Forest

It’s a shame there’s no market for them…..they used to be worth a box of turkey loads at least.

Good to see others using the 17 WSM. I've had a Ruger chambered for it since around 2016, which I bought specifically for use on state land coyotes. I've shot a number with it, with no escapees. Seems that no matter what they get shot with, they always jump and try to bite the wound before expiring.

Which bullet weight did you use, and is there an exit wound? I use the 25 grain loads, about a third of them exit the animal. The rest grenade leaving a mess.

Good to control their numbers when ever possible.

It seems to me that the lighter colored coyotes tend to be the females. But that's just my observation, maybe gender has nothing to do with it.

Nice yote! Sounds like the 17 WSM is a winner! I had a 17 HMR for awhile but I was not impressed with the penetration with the 17 grain bullets.

I love the 17 calibers. The HMR is a great plinking and squirrel round. I have two of those, a Ruger bolt action and a Browning T-bolt. Super accurate and fun to shoot. Also had a Ruger 96 lever action that I wish I never sold. Had a Savage for awhile, but prefer a wood stock and traded it away.

I also have a Savage in 17 WSM. Bought one when they first came out, had to order it and wait. I just had to have it. I think the only thing I ever killed with it was a woodchuck. Basically cut it in half. Was pretty nasty.

Come to think of it, my 17 WSM is still out on loan. Hopefully my brother returns it one of these years!

Just took another young Female last evening, Again right behind the chicken coop. Used the Savage B-mag in .17wsm, love this gun with the Boyd's thumb hole stock. Original stock was plastic and garbage, but the price was right even with the Upgrade to Boyd's

Good shooting! Nice varmint set-up you have there!

I may get an opportunity in a couple weeks when turkey season starts...
