Regs are NOT set for the year yet. Public Hearing this week at Marine HQ in Old Lyme - check the DEP web site for details. Only changes are fluke& scup - Fluke - the most favorable option is 6 fish at 17.5 inches - season opener around April 30. (NY open will be in mid-May). Scup - 100 day open season, 10.5 inch length, 25 fish bag (slighty different regs for party/charter are being considered for scup fishery.)

I heard the party boat and charter boat guys may get 60 fish per day per man. For a 60 day period! (Porgy) Dont know if their is any truth to this.

Yes, there is truth to the Party/Charter fishery (60 fish) - this is under discussion. I was at a meeting with numerous Party boat captains from NY/Mass/RI/CT on this issue - while I do not advocate different limits for sportsfishing it is a huge economic issue for them - many of the boats are almost out of business.

If you leave from Ct. Port, fish in New York Waters , do not dock in New York and return directly to Ct. Port how many fluke can you keep?

While in ny waters, you fall under ny season and possession limits. You also have to comply with ct limits upon your return.

It's a case of the lowest denominator. It's worse if you also fish or pass through r.i. waters.

I appreciate the Regs being posted, but noticed that RI is 2004. Will their Regs remain the same or have they not posted to the web yet?

Thanks,
Jeff

Last years regs remain in effect until they're changed. We're expecting updates soon from both CT and RI.

Re: Ct and Ny Fishing Regs - 05/02/05 05:30 PM

I don't understand why we are expected to keep people in business

If the fishery can't support commercial fishing it must be eliminated or shrunk to a sustainable size.

The idea that we need to make concesions so a small minority can stay employed is insane.

Commercial hunting was banned around 1900 because game could not sustain the pressure I don't know when the fisheries people are going to get there heads out of ??? and face the facts

Everyone needs to protect the resources not just the recreational guys because regulating the recreational guys is not working

A perfect example I can catch 6 18" fluke a commercial guy can catch 65 # of 14 1/2" fish The only way you can get a commercial license is to buy one from someone who dies Again either we can have a commercial fisheries or we can not. Either we need a creel limit and size limit or we do not

And don't even get me started about the draggers killing everything they touch

Re: Ct and Ny Fishing Regs - 01/27/07 02:03 PM

Why can't CT, NY, and RI get togerher, talk, and decide to make the fluke & Striper regs. the same for all 3 states!!! Like a couple of miles makes a difference in overall population considering that thease fish will travel between thease three states on a daily basis.
