Twin lake?? - 08/22/15 08:21 PM

Just wondering if there are any plans on building a public boat ramp soon on twin lakes. I know the state wasn't going to build useless the fees at the private launch went up from $10. Well he has gone up to 15 this yr and I'm hoping the state keeps its word on building a public ramp seeing as he raised the fee and plans to up it again 5 more next yr. For a lake we pay to stock we should NOT be expected to pay that much to launch each time. So can you let me know what the state plans on doing seeing as they said if the fees were raised they will build. Thanks for your time.

how bout a launch with NO fees, since we already pay a fee yearly to fish?

I haven't driven in to look at it, but it appears the boulders have been moved from the cartop launch. Saw someone launch a boat the size of mine (17 foot aluminum) there a couple weeks ago.

Re: Twin lake?? - 08/23/15 08:24 PM

We don't want another Lake Waramaug disaster where the state agreed NOT to build a deep water trailer launch at the state park when a perfect place to do so existed. It is too long a story to go over but we took it to the top of the DEP and to the states AG. The Commissioner of the DEP wrote me a personal note explaining why he did what he did. It was all politics.
Twin Lakes should offer no such resistance but start the lobbying now. It only takes a simple decision by the owner of the marina to close his launch to the public and the Twin Lakes are totally private. This is a private marina and they can close it to the public. It is not a Bantam Lake boat launch issue with the Town of Morris.

Re: Twin lake?? - 08/23/15 08:43 PM

So this is what I'm was told last yr. The state owns land and would only build a full size state owned launch on it if the marina went up on its launch fee. Which it did this yr and plans are for another increase next yr to $20. How can it be deemed a private lake when the state owns land on it and use tax dollor to stocking.

Re: Twin lake?? - 08/23/15 10:18 PM

Is'nt there public access for cartoppers on the state owned land where they should put in a boat launch?

Re: Twin lake?? - 08/24/15 08:22 AM

Yes they have 5 acres. So my through is if the state don't plan no doing anything about it ( what else is new). Then they should stop the stocking program there with our fish ( we pay for them). This guy is more or less making money off a fee for fish he don't pay for...we do. Plus his parking and lauach area both are horrible.

The new owner of the marina at Whaley Lake in New York State closed his launch to the public, and they used to get $30.00 to launch there, now it's private. It's not about the money.

Re: Twin lake?? - 08/26/15 06:11 PM

If the state owns land it will never be private. However, overall use may go way down if the only access is for car tops.

With the way funding and staffing is right now at the deep, I wouldn't be surprised if stocking takes a hit anyway state wide in the coming years.

Make some phone calls, posting here isn't squeaky enough by any stretch.

Re: Twin lake?? - 03/11/16 01:51 PM

Oharas wouldnt make any money if he went private. He makes his money renting boats and launch fees. Ive rented slips there for june and its not a bad deal. Its his property and he has too pay high taxes. The reason he is raising rates is because he knows the state is broke and doesnt have the money to build a public launch. Malloy raised his taxes so he in return raised his fees. I would suggest some people to pitch in volunteer and buy a few trucks of gravel to get the state launch usable. Its easier to do something yourselves than wait for someone else do it.remember the time we put our funds and stocked the farmington with 100 trophy trout. In fact ill donate $50.00 towards gravel if mike g can put a crew together and get permission from deep.

I've only ever launched at OHaras. Where is the " state launch "? I never knew there was or used to be one. Put me down for 6 stones towards ramp construction.

it's a catch 22. The private launch keeps fishing pressure down, which is why Twin fishes so good but $15-$20 to launch is ridiculous.

Are they offering season passes ?

Why the boulders? Move the center one and it would be a lot easier to launch even a cartop. I would be very suspect as to who put those boulders there in the firstplace.

I couldn't agree more. Why the heck would you put a boulder smack dab in the middle?
Apparently they don't want people tp launch there. rolleyes

I like Twin, but only go there it 2-3 times per year. The 15 dollar launch fee isn't an issue if you really want to fish it.

The guy at the Marina was snotty to me last Fall, said he's going to raise the fee to $25. I'll go once or twice at $15, but if it goes higher, I'm out. The fishing isn't that great there, it's decent, but not awesome.

Re: Twin lake?? - 03/22/16 08:16 PM

At 25 I'm sure it will turn some away. Too bad , nice place to fish . But like you said , it's ok, not great . Do you ever fish the other lake Tommy ?

O' have one now, but I'm not lugging that to Twin. It's much easier just to launch.

With all due respect…..A pack of cigarettes cost 8+ dollars. Times that by 6-10 packs per week.

Guys don't have a problem burning that amount of money every week, but complaining about a 15 dollar launch fee…..just saying.

What is the relationship between cigarettes and fishing / launch fees ? I'm confused .

Don't complain about a 15-20 dollar launch fee, when you burn 60-80 bucks per week on cigarettes.

I will concede spending that kind of money on cigarettes is crazy but you lost me on the connection. Oh well, I guess we all spend our money on silly things . Don P. Spends that much on hair dye smile1

West Twin ? Yeah, I usually head into West for a while during an outing. Get more crappie on that side.
