Question re: Marine License and Enforcement for Children - 05/22/10 02:50 PM

Are kids (under the age of say 10 or 12) required to have Marine Water Fishing Licenses for snapper fishing, beach seining, and crab or minnow traps? Couldn't find anything when I scanned the reg.

How about fishing for larger species in the sound?

And, is there any latitude in enforcement (say, if a licensed adult is present)?

No question about licenses for adults - I just can't see the practical way to regulate, license, and enforce this with large groups of kids visiting for a coule of days at the shore other than buying them each a license.

Thanks!

John, Here is the answer to your question.

Marine Waters Fishing Licenses

Marine Waters Fishing Licenses are required for anyone 16 years of age or older fishing from shore or from a boat in the marine district or landing marine fish or bait species in Connecticut taken from offshore waters. Licenses are issued on a calendar year basis and expire on December 31st. Please see Marine Waters Fishing License FAQ page for more information.
