Fishing license if observing?

Fishing license if observing? - 04/07/14 04:12 PM

Maybe an odd question, but I'd like to start out by saying, that I buy licenses for CT, MA and will be getting my NY fishing license before the end of the week. I try to do things by the book.

That being said, if I have a family member visiting from OUT OF STATE. (my father) can I take him to where we fish with my Son (his grandson) if he does not participate in any way? We'd just like to spend a little time outside with him. He has no interest in actively fishing, he just wants to spend some time with his grandson and I felt this would be a cool thing for the both of them.

I want to make sure I get something if necessary, and not run the risk of fine or more.

If he's a resident and 65+ , he can get a free license .

I should have stated I grew up in MA, and he'll be visiting from out of state. (MA) Unfortunately the 65+ is irrelevant. ( I know I didn't state that originally)

You don't any license to observe, film or hang out with a hunter or angler.....provided you don't provide any type of assistance to them. Baiting a hook, casting for them, reeling in for them, landing the fish for them all counts as assisting in the take so a license would be needed then. Just hanging out to watch what's going on doesn't require anything.
