New coyote season. - 10/15/16 06:32 AM

I see that the coyote season now runs Jan 1 thru Dec 31.

When spring turkey hunting, on private and or state land, is it allowed to also carry a 17 or 22 rifle?

To be used for coyotes?

I could not find anything in the guide...did I miss something?

I'm not sure about your question and hopefully encon responds to it. I don't have the guide in front of me but plan on looking at it. However don't forget...even though the season is pretty much the whole year you still can't hunt them on sundays. I almost made that mistake yesterday. Had a coyote right under my stand and had forgotten about sunday hunting. I had intent to take it but by the time I had my crossbow in his direction he was out of range. So relaxed and texted my friend about what had happened and he reminded me....Deer only on sundays on private land.

Over the years while spring turkey hunting, there have been plenty of times where I could have killed coyotes if...

1. The season was open.

2. I had my 17 with me.

I plan to carry both the shotgun and 17 with me next spring. If I have a shot at a coyote that is too far with the shotgun, I'll use the 17.

The shot gun will be legal for turkey, and the 17 will be legal for coyote.

I also see that 22 mag is now legal for state land.
