Is MA reciprocal?

Is MA reciprocal? - 04/23/19 09:29 AM

Heading up to the Cape to meet some of the wife's family, they own a few restaurants in upper Cape. I know my son will be chomping at the bit to hit the salt. Question - is MA reciprocal with our CT salt (marine) license? Or do I need to purchase a one day hall pass (do the same in FL for a week each year)

Thank you in advance

I would pick one up at walmart just to cover yourself. the cost of not having one and getting pinched is not worth the cost.

MA is reciprocal with CT, NH, and RI. ME honors MA licenses, but MA does not honor ME licenses.

Here's a link to the MA web-site:

On a personal note, went to MA a couple of times with my family who come from NY and NH, but had no licenses. Went with them to the MA licensing office where the official sold them temp licenses and told me I was good to go.

To be clear, this only applies to recreational SALT water licenses. Don't know if the same applies to FRESH water licenses.

Also, if you follow the embedded link to the ME web site, it appears to state that ME honors salt water licenses from ANY other state. How nice!

Good to know. I leave my CT cottages every year for the past 23+ years to chillax at a Cape place in Chatham or Brewster and fish from the briny shore and never gave ANY license a 2nd thought. laugh

Does not apply to freshwater, I pay $40.01 for nonresident MA inland license online. By the way, New Jersey requires salt water "license" but is free online.

I fish the Cape Cod bay quite often throughout the summer months starting in Late May early June - primarily based out of Wellfleet (family house) or Orleans/Rock Harbor (buddy's house). If you guys know you're going up there and would like to try and hook up send me a pm. I never leave my small Whaler at home so, unless I'm strictly doing chores, I have access to the water and as long as the wind is less than 15 MPH I'm on the water!

Salt Water CT lic. definitely reciprocal in MA.

Great offer Dan.

I'm renting a place on the water in Chatham this July. Let's get a trip in if we can.

If you have a CT Marine fishing license you have reciprocity in Massachusetts.

Look up Head Hunter charters Don. He'll put you on stripers like you've never been on stripers before.

6 of us boated 92 stripers, no schoolies, all would have been keepers.
