Wildlife Management Areas - 12/13/21 12:46 PM

Good afternoon Encon.
Are the WMA properties (ie Suffield wma, Goshen wma etc.) owned by the state ot leased? Reason for asking is want to know if using a rimfire for small game there is legal. Thank you and Merry Christmas!!

'm wingin this but I've always understood WMAs to be state owned while some public avaiable hunting areas are leased land and generally more retrictive in how they are used such as permit requiredand manner of hunting (archery only) etc.. State forests are state owned and generally more open to all uses.Check the listing or areas open to public for info. Generally .22 cal rimfire is permitted for hunting small game on state lands but again check the regs to be sure.I hope this helps....

Thanks for the reply. The rules are pretty straightforward. Rimfire is allowed on state owned land period.
State leased, no.
Permit required, no.
State Forest, yes.
State owned, yes.
It is my belief that the WMAs are state owned also. I just want to make sure so as not to get into a bind. Thanks.
