Travel Rod Tube Needed - 05/22/18 06:56 PM

Does anyone have a plastic travel Rod Tube that I could borrow for an upcoming Tarpon trip that I am going on?
Must be Airline rated (shipping it by Fed Ex) and able to handle up to a 7 ft + or - rod.
I would be fully responsible for it if it was damaged or lost in transit I would replace it for you.

4” PVC tube from Home Depot with 2 plastic caps works great. Tape the caps on. Prob cost about 20 bucks.

Just an FYI. If you go this route which is great, use a screw cap on one end of course but drill through the square part and somewhere else and run a wrie clip or lock....they can come loose. Also drill a little vent hole somewhere...the glued caps can blow off in the depressurized plane.....my friend got and empty Sage case with no bottom on it and no rod flying back form Alaska....they didn't stnd behind the issue.

When I build rods and ship them I use this pipe from lowes - it's a thin-walled PVC to save on weight:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Charlotte-Pipe-1-1-4-in-x-10-ft-160-PSI-PVC-Pipe/3133113

A pair of 1.75" black vinyl end caps and a drinking straw folded over the end of the pipe and under the cap to release the pressure as mentioned and you're in business. Tape the caps on but don't cover the end of the straw with the tape.

Won't work for spinning rods, too high a guide height, but for casting rods or fly rods it's great.
