Block Island 4th of July

Block Island 4th of July - 07/05/20 05:42 PM

Arrive at SW reef and only 4 other boats there at 6am, very unusual.
Started to troll 2 small bunker spoons to target smaller stripers due to the slot limit.

Hooked up with doubles right away, couldn't ever get my hot tea out of the thermos. Two short stripers 24" & 26".

Spent 3 hours trolling the area with the 4 other boats, caught 13 stripers 6 blues and lost a couple fish also.

Ended up with 3 keeper bass and threw back the rest including a 50" and 51" slob, brings a tear to the eye releasing such a big fish.
Also a PITA reviving them before release so they survive (I hope).

Did some bottom fishing but had to cut that short when my Japanese coworker could not stop chumming, and apologizing for forgotten his seasick pills.

Great action with some 50” & 51” BEASTS! Good stuff.

I prefer to eat the smaller Stripers anyway. Yea it takes some doing to successfully release a large Striper.
