Help support cancer research - NYC Marathon fund raising - 04/18/17 12:52 PM

All,

I'll be running the NYC Marathon this November to raise money for Connor’s Cure, which supports pediatric cancer research

https://www.givetochildrens.org/aboutconnorscure

We all know someone who has battled, or is currently fighting cancer. The good news is that there are many good men and women working in hospitals to successfully treat cancer.

Many kids are winning the fight, thanks to groups like Connor’s Cure.

I've personally witnessed my good friend Scott Joerman's son, Brandon, successfully beat cancer and go on to enjoy life. (that's a pic of him below with a monster bass from last weekend!)

Please take a moment and donate today to help other kids win the fight. Thank you!

Pretty cool, Mitch!! I just got a Garmin VivoSmart HR+ for biking. Check out some of the features to this one!! It does a lot like Strava,BUT no need to keep the Cell phone burning up data. It has GPS so you can see your run almost like Strava. Garmin VivoSmart HR+ from BuyDig $60.00 !! I've had the VivoSmart HR for over 3 years with no problems, just the band was breaking.

Cool, yeah I have the Garmin Vivoactive HR watch. Love it. Great features and not as expensive as some of the other Garmin watches.

Yeah, I stopped using my phone as a tracker last year. No where near as accurate as a watch. And, no need to have your phone with you if you don't want it. Just sync to it when you're done.

I'm on Strava. Are you on there? What is your name?

My GF does Strava, I've never done it. I don't have much extra Data with the kids on my plan. That VIVOACTIVE looks awesome, too. a little more $$ though.

Once you get back from a ride or run, are you already importing the activity from your watch to the Garmin app on your phone or computer?

If so, once your activity is in Garmin, you can sync to Strava (over a wireless connection if you're using your phone) or via computer.

There's no data required to import your activities from Garmin to Strava.

Just a few months to go until the NYC Marathon. Thanks to all who donated.

Any size donation is much appreciated. This is a great charity where 100% of the funds go directly to cancer research.

Done! Put in those miles ! If the goal isn't reached, do you guys have to pay ?

Re: Help support cancer research - NYC Marathon fund raising - 08/21/18 03:07 PM

Thanks, Paul. Keep banging out those miles on the bike!

Yes, individuals are responsible for covering the full amount pledged by Oct. 13. But, the goal will be reached, just like in November!

If you or any kids you know are into video games, we're doing a fundraiser tournament/day at the end of this month in Stamford ...

Second NYC Marathon in the books yesterday on a beautiful day through all five boroughs with 52,704 people running. A team from my job entered the race for the second year.

It's quite an event to experience as both a runner and a spectator. Thanks very much to everyone from CTF who contributed. All total, Team V raised over $380K for cancer research.

Here are a few pics ...

Picking up my official race # on Thursday with a pic of last year's women's winner Shalane Flanagan in the background (she placed 3rd this year).

Pre-dawn ferry ride with some of the crew, to then get on a bus to get to the start village.

Once you get to the start village, it's a lot of waiting around until your designated start time. It's a long morning.

Most of our team keeping warm with lots of layers that we eventually take off and put in donation bins.

Bathrooms are a popular place right up until the start.

Throwing the metal horns for the camera. rawk

At the finish. Managed a smile, but in a lot of suffering at this point. (sorry for the watermarks. haven't officially decided on pics to purchase yet)

The best part, the post-race beers with a buddy from work after completing his first marathon.

Here's a vid of my race on a map ...

Relive 'Morning Nov 4th'

Haven't decided if I'm going for round 3 yet next year, but there's a good chance I will. It's a very tough, but rewarding experience.

Congrats Mitch ! Quite a feat for sure.
My youngest daughter ran the Chicago marathon a little while ago and will be in Philly
Nov 18 to run that one.

Re: Help support cancer research - NYC Marathon fund raising - 11/09/18 11:14 AM

That's great. Two buddies nuts from work who ran the NYC Marathon with me are running the Rocky Run half-marathon tomorrow down in Philly tomorrow. I'm still in recovery mode for a bit!

Chicago sounds interesting. I know some people who have done that. I might try that one some day. I'm pretty sure I'm going back to NYC next year for round 3. I guess it's an addiction at this point. Not trying to beat anyone else but myself, though.

Running that distance is beyond addicted...it's just plain sick ! biggrin beerchug

Re: Help support cancer research - NYC Marathon fund raising - 11/09/18 12:10 PM

biggrin

There are people who go beyond marathon distance and run ultra marathons. That is next level mental illness. Beyond sick.
