Ben and I started off at the Willimantic River. Of the approximately 60-80 people there at 6am, no one caught any trout except for Ben and I who got one each. The place was empty by noon, everyone was happy to get out but disapointed that fish wernt being caught.

I fished from 11-3pm at the Mt Hope River with Dan. We got one fish each. We saw one other fish caught by the 15+ people there. Story of the day was that there were few fish caught and most people left.

Our method was wading the river and casting into the deeper pools with rapalas and rooster tails. This method has been very productive past. It seemed there were no fish there today. Usually you can atleast see the trout, but I have a feeling not as many were stocked or they were poached out beforehand.

Anyway kept up a nice tradition. Got together withbuddies for lunch at the Willimantic River in Tolland. Had lots of beer and food and the weather was nice by then.

I fished the Willie also on Saturday with my seven year old and his friend. We caught 0 trout and 2 small dace. I only saw 1 small trout caught all day. We fished until noon and I decided I had enough. The kids didn't get skunked and the bite was off, so I took his friend home. We get there and no one was home. Ok, we go to a different spot and fish some more. Same river, just up stream some, I spotted some fish off a bridge, so I took them to a point just above the fish and put a worm on the bottom, right in front of there nose. The spot was only big enough for one person to cast and with my polarized glasses, I could see exactly where where to put the bait, so I cast for the two boys. In minutes they were on to fish and good size too. The largest about 18"-20"( about 2+ lbs. ) or so, and the smallest about 10". They managed to land 18-20 of them, and had a blast doing it. I also heard a lot of trash talking they did to 4, twenty something guys down stream, who had the fish 10' in front, and couldn't get a bite. Turned out to be a great day on the water. Oops, I forgot to tell you what they caught, White Suckers. Didn't matter, to them they were just huge. ;\)

That was me, Dan, Gabe, and Kyle. We had just cleaned up our picnic before you got there. We reallly werent fishing anymore at this point rather than just pounding beers and catching some sun.

Gabe and Kyle live right in the condos. Dan, Ben, and I all grew up on Walbridge Hill Rd so we always spend sometime there on opening day.

Im glad to see you found a way to catch the only fish there, suckers... Ive really never seen anyone catch suckers like that, cast after cast. I think they liked the spinner you had on before the worm which spun in the current...

Yea, Ben and I were the only ones that caught trout there this morning. We then waded all the way down to the 2nd tressel, about 2miles, and got nothing while using rapalas and roosters. We usually get a lot doing this. I think they forgot to stock it this year, otherwise, that old retired guy (Mike) thats always there poached um all ahead of the season.

Regardless of catching trout or not, we all had a good time there. Your kids definatly loved that. Great spending time with you there and a pleasure meeting/talking with ya.

Paris - Where did you fish? I know that no one caught fish in the south river road to hall school stretch for the entire day. You must have been up in stafford or down at coventry.

We fished below rt.195 until about noon, than headed upstream to the first bridge and caught the suckers. I took my daughter up there today with the same results. Managed to get three perch also. I saw about 10 anglers and no trout. What's up? Normaly I'd have at least 50 trout by now. Might have to go else where.

Jimmy, thanks for letting me get so close. I would never crowd in on someone like that normaly. Your generosity allowed the the kids to have a great day. Maybe we'll hook up some day and I'll trade you some of my lures for some of your spots. I tied those spinners myself and it sure felt good to see them work. I can normaly spank the trout on them all day long. Don't know what's up.
