Got to my spot on the Quinnapiac (sp) river at 5 am. River was up from my scouting the day before but I scouted out slow water spots on the edges of the river and planned accordingly. The Quinnapiac River Watershed Association did a great job stocking again this year as well as the state. in the one mile section of the river well over 1000 trout were released, many of them being Golden trout as well as big ones over 3lbs with Tags for prizes.

The hole I fished near wallingford this morning had about 9 people in it and that was really it for pressure. On the first cast, I landed a fish in the first ten seconds. I was the firt on the river to do so. In the first hour, I land 10 fished , nothing to write home to mom about. 2 goldens, 3 bows and 5 Brookies. Over the next hour the fishing slowed and only landed about 5 more trout, all but one was a brook. Sizes about 9-12 inches.

Picked up after wearing this spot dead and took a ride down by the old Q River Restaurant. Seen some nice stringers, with 3lb rainbows. A Reported 4lb brown came out of the red bridge area near cheshire this morning. River was madness down hear, hit the dunkin donuts and returned to the opening morning spot. This time decided to brave the river walking a gravel/sand bar until it started getting deep and fished the ripple. stayed for another hour here and managed another 5 fish, all brookies, one at 14 inches.

All in all a great morning, everyone I saw caught fish. River still high, and lots of fish left to be had over the next week as water levels come down. Fishing it again tommorow morning ! \:D

PS, for those that know me, yes I used Mallows !!!! Stay puff lives !

Pete, nice post. you didn't actually take 10 fish on your own did you? You didn't mention anyone else and thats over the limit. Also you can't go back in the same day. Thats a daily creel limit of 5. Didn't know if you kept them all. No wonder nothings left after opening day. Just asking, your whole story seems way over the limit. I know no one on this site would do that. \:D

Thanks for you uplifting comments, for your info the river is coming back due to the Quinny Rivershed association, its not as dirty as you think. Why don't you come out and do your part when they have a clean up.

And for Orvis, I only catch and release, unless its a trophy I want or someone asks me for some. All today were tossed back. A group of four other guys caught about 40 between them, they were also thrown back. I've been posting on this site for a long time, I know the regs.

Bogey, would love too, gonna have some leave coming up here in the near future, most of may and all of june. Moving soon, got orders ! Just accepted a bid on my house today !

Stay in touch, we will hit the Farm when the crowd dies down some.

Good Luck Dug, I have lots of leave coming, you make it happen on your end and its a deal.

Nfish-Yes, the quinny does run by the bike trail in Chesire. Thats a good section of the river up there. The fishing will be good for a couple of weeks still. Then it was spread out and you will have to invest some serious time to find those spots. The Quinny River Watershed association stocked the Goldens in there. The part down stream near wallingford is known as the golden mile. Its the most heavily stocked section of river with golden trout in the state of CT.

I also fished the Quinny, ended with 4 rainbows 3 brookies and 1 golden. All caught and released to live another day.

Also bumped into some a$$hole DEP guy!!
He came right over to me called me a liar to my face!! I always take 2 rods to the water when I fish. When I need to switch from spinner to powerbait or whatever. I just switch rod, saves me time.
Well yesterday, I had my friend with me who sitting on the bank, say 15-20yards behind me, just absorbing the beautiful day. This DEP guy came over to me and said that he saw my friend fishing with the other rod!
I will go into more detail when the board re-opens fully, since I am going a little of subject, but still, this is a report from my opening day fishing trip.
Well it was an OK day, caught some small to average size fish and shared a little BS with fellow anglers on the bank.
