Cold front or not, and regardless how windy it was, Jon A and myself met and fished at Saugatuck for a change. It was more aimed at relaxing, talking and just being away from everything.
Reservoir at max pool, white caps all over the surface, no one else fishing Valley Forge. We were the only ones out there. Not many fishing spots, considering the water level. But we were tucked away nicely in a small cove, out of the wind's path, which was over 20MPH, with some strong gusts all afternoon.
None the less, I picked a spot which I knew well, and used in the past as a shelter also. Good choice, because about an hour later, Jon's line takes off...not much of a fight to begin with, but as he was reeling it in, the drag started going nuts, at which point I pulled my rod out of the water, to give him room to run, without getting tangled.
Shortly after, Jon brings up a Walleye, and I gently lifted it out by hand, since we did not have a net either.
It measured 24 inches, with a 13 inch girth. Only out of curiosity, I used the weight calculator, and came up to 6.26 pounds!!
She was really fat, but sluggish, as the water was pretty cold. She was cruising around 10 feet at the most, and was caught right after 2PM or so.
Shortly after, another hit, but missed the fish.
No more action after 4pm, except another missed fish. Slow but steady. All you need is to be patient, and work the bait slowly.
But....we were happy to be out there, instead of pushing pencil at work.
Jon, nice fishing and chatting with you again. Post that pic, because my camera quit on me.
