I had an awesome day at Great Hollow Lake today. I started by getting there at about 10:00am while it was quiet there with only 1 other person. I threw a worm out there on 2 split shots and let it sink and stay. Then, on another rod, I tossed a few lures such as a white/black Roostertail, Mepp's Black Fury, Mepp's Comet, and Mepp's dressed Aglia. I had no luck with them. But then, by the time it was 11:00am, I started getting hits on my worms. My first was an 11" rainbow. So then I decided to rig a worm on my rod that I was tossing the spinners with. I landed a total of 6 rainbows from 9" to 12" with the worms. By the time I ran out of worms and let power bait sit with 1 rod, I switched back over to my Mepp's and Roostertails. Then, at about 12:30pm, the DEP came. I aksed them how many they were stocking. They told me anywhere from 500 to 600. Right after they left, I saw the trout breaking everywhere around the area where they stocked. I started tossing my white/black Roostertail out there. Before yah know it, I was nailing 'em. I withing 2 hours I caught 10 fish, mostly browns around 10" and 11". I also managed 2 brookies and 1 10" rainbow. The 2 brookies I caught were 10" and 13" 1.5 pounds. The 13" brookie gave me a great fight on 6lb mono. Then it slowed down around 2:00pm. On my last 2 hours out there, I still caught 6 more trout. I caught 1 9" rainbow and 3 browns around 10" and 11" all on my white/black Roostertail. I then managed another 11" brown on my black/silver Roostertail and had another great fight with a 1.5 pound brookie after catching it on my 1" yellow Mister Twister Teeny Meeny Grub. By the time it had just about totally slowed down, I called it a day at about 4:00pm. So that was my awesome day out on Great Hollow Lake. I was also surprised to see that 3 out of the 6 other people I saw out there at the time I was nailing them only caught 1 or 2 fish. They were spreading the news to every new fisherman saying, "you should see this guy! He's nailing them and catching fish after fish all on Roostertails while we're catching nothing!"

BTW- A park employee told me that the DEP will be coming again to Great Hollow in about another 2 weeks around the 15th to stock again. So anybody here who fishes Great Hollow better get out there that day so you can nail them like I did today.

Also, I happen to meet another CTF member out there today. I think he said his member name is KMK. Is that right?

If bluefish were to grow as big as giant bluefins, then there would be nothing left out there except for blues!

Nice going, Michael. What part of the lake were you fishing, near the bridge or on the other side by the beach ? Also, do meal worms seem to work there ? Your post mentions worms, but I didn't know whether you meant garden worms, crawlers or mealies.

I was fishing by the big rocks which is where I was casting out with the worms. I was using earthworms that I get in a container at Wal Mart. I was also fishing right at the boat ramp which is where all the trout were hanging around after the dep stocked.

Great Hollow is a neat little lake ! When I take the kids there trout fishing, I use floating powerbait (Chart or orange) with a splitshot... They stocked some monster breeders in there a couple years ago. Watched a kid pull out and 8+ pound rainbow in the cove area.

Alot of people seem to ignore the bass there... NOT ME! With all the trout they put in that lake, it's a feeding frenzy for them. There is a trench/ditch on the far side of the lake that runs about 70% of the long shoreline. I fish there often (though not this year...yet) and have pretty good results.

Though this is a town park lake, you can get a pass to go there. This is a great trout lake to take the kids with lots of shoreline areas to fish. It is stocked many times each year and you are limited to keeping 2 fish per person. Give it a try sometime.

Where is Graet Hollow Lake? It sounds ideal as a place to take kids to fish.

Behold the fisherman. Mighty are his preparations. He arises early and full of hope. He fishes all day and returns late in the evening, smelling afoul, and the truth is not in him.

Fishman, Great Hollow Lake is a small lake that is part of Wolfe Park in Monroe off of Purdy Hill Rd. The park Entrance is right across from the town garage(Sandpit?). If you know where Agway is in Monroe, that's Purdy Hill Rd. Look on Mapquest and it shows the lake. It is part of the Monroe Wolfe Park. I believe there is no fees for entering until Memorial Day Weekend. There is a boat launch for small boats (no gas engines)but be careful, very steep drop off at launch!!!

Fished the lake today on my lunch break for the first time. Lost 2 fish on a spinner. It seems like a great place. I kinda looked funny fishing with a tie on!!
