I went this afternoon and had a doe and a button buck come from the big woods across the brook. The doe was browsing at 35 yards but the button buck gave me a quartering away shot at 25 yards, so I went for the bird in the hand theory and sent it right in the heart behind the crease.
The broadhead hit it’s mark and he snow plowed, then flopped and rolled into the brook where he expired.
I had to wade in up to my knees to grab it, and I’ll tell you that ice cold water woke me right up! He was soaked but the haul out wasn’t too bad and while it was raining, at least it wasn’t a downpour yet.
I dumped out my boots and stripped off my soaking wet clothes after I hung the deer in the club cooler.
My freezer will look much happier in a few days.

Nothing like a little Venison Veal for the freezer!

Up to your knees? So about 5ft deep then...

Glad to hear you went with the Bird In Hand approach. God knows I have over the years. You've been working hard all season, but mature bucks don't always cooperate, and two in the cooler, is two in the cooler.

I'll be watching the Recipes/Cooking forum for some new Tall 1 posts.

....If we have any say... Vote for May

Knew you could do it. Better eating than a big, old tough buck.

If there are fish to catch. I'll be there to my end.
