An Act Concerning the Regulation of Striped Bass Fishing in the State,

Posted by: mikek06511
on: 05/03/26 12:45 PM

The Connecticut House Bill HB 05333 is titled “An Act Concerning the Regulation of Striped Bass Fishing in the State, A Working Group Concerning the Wildlife Conservation Program and Procedures concerning the Establishment of Fish Passages.”
This bill, if passed into law, will benefit us in many ways, while avoiding previously discussed alternatives that were of concern to recreational striped bass fishermen, guides and tackle shop owners. It’s aims are to clarify penalties for violation of regulations on fishing for striped bass, mandating that fishing for striped bass from December 1 to the following March 31 shall be catch-and-release only, establishes a working group for conservation of traditionally non-harvested species, and changes procedures for petitioning DEEP to require a safe, timely and effective fish passage to be installed on dams that block fish passage and migration.
The portions devoted to striped bass are for the purpose of combating poaching of that species (with the overwintering Housatonic fish primarily in mind), directs fines collected by certain municipalities along that river to those towns (incentive to fine poachers). Catch-and Release fishing for striped bass will be allowed between December 1 and the next March 31 throughout the state, so the Connecticut Surfcasters Association’s striper-a-month award is not in jeopardy.
Let’s support this bill. As recreational striped-bass fishermen, we benefit from a hopeful reduction in poaching of our overwintering striped bass without curbing our ability to practice catch-and- release. The fish passage portion boosts the potential of our current comeback of our river herring, and the working group portion benefits the wildlife that we don’t harvest but enjoy while we spend time outdoors or even looking out the window. Please follow the links below. The first will give you a quick-and-easy way to contact your legislators and let them know you care about these issues and urge them to vote in favor of passing the bill. The second link brings you to the bill if you want to read it for yourself.
Go to the first link, click on Write or Call and read the brief and easy instructions, fill in a little information and push the “send” button. Make sure to include a short statement telling why this is important to you .
https://www.tu.org/conservation/action-center/...
This second link can bring you to the Bill, if you’d like to read it.
https://trackbill.com/.../connecticut-house-bill.../2822349/
If you fish for striped bass or enjoy Connecticut’s fish and/or wildlife in any way at all, please take a few minutes and help out

As my virus software wouldn't allow me to download the file on this from Bill Hyatt, I copied this post from George Baldwin

Several puked on the way to Bermuda in 22 and 24 using Scopolamine patches but did MUCH better with Stugeron. My skipper is an MD and loads up on it when we go to Bermuda or he goes to the UK. I would try Scopolomine patches first and then Bonine. But see if you can get your hands on Stugeron as well.
