Beach Pond - Kokanee Status

Posted by: chester
on: 07/16/20 04:19 PM

I'm not sure who could best answer this question so I will just throw it out there.

Is there any information to the status of the Kokanee fishery at Beach Pond? It's my understanding that the State began stocking it about 5 years ago and would like to hear some feedback on whether or not there is a viable fishery in place.

Please provide some feedback at your earliest opportunity. Thank you.

Inland Bass Tournament Fishing

Posted by: Jon Pski
on: 05/31/20 07:24 PM

Now that it LOOKS like we should be ready to get back to conducting Club sized fishing tournaments again, I just wanted to pass this along to DEEP. This message went out to our membership the other day but was formulated back in March. We could have been doing this all along.

I wish I did not need to write this, and not all people will agree but, so that we can not be socially shamed or have fingers pointed at us I'm writing it anyhow with the agreement of our Tournament Director.

We understand many people are still worried about Covid 19 so we will attempt to keep any gathering at our tournaments to no more than 5 people. Therefore, when registering in the morning, we should have only one person from each team come to Bill and pay. If you feel you need to wait in line, please maintain your 6 feet social distancing. When it comes to drawing start numbers it will be the same thing. One person at a time. Weigh in will be conducted with 3 people attending the scales. Weigh in will be be done by boat number. We will call your boat number when it is your turn to come to the scales both team members can come to the scales (some of you need help in carrying those monster sacks LOL) Please be patient. If anyone wants to gather in groups or be closer than 6 feet to each other, that is fine if done in your own space but please allow the Tournament Committee their space.

Stocking

Posted by: Buck
on: 03/29/20 08:51 AM

It appears to me that Inland Fisheries continued stocking all last week before and after the Governor's announcement that the trout opener was now going to be Wednesday 3/25. One reason is that it would cost the state more money to keep the trout at the hatchery than it would by putting them in a truck and having a two man crew dump them in the lakes and streams. What will suffer is the stream distribution. The easiest spots will get stocked. No running nets up into the woods now, no parking on one side of the road and running nets across moving traffic, those kind of changes. So a stream like the Norwalk River will probably be stocked in maybe half of the spots on the stocking map.
I went through the stocking info that has occurred already and I did not see the Norwalk River as being stocked yet.
That stream is usually stocked the week before the season opener which, based upon the normal schedule, has not happened yet so I am assuming there are nothing but holdovers in there now. If anyone has fished it yet can confirm or correct this impression that would be helpful.

Squantz pond boat launch closed !

Posted by: Buck
on: 05/15/19 10:15 AM

I stopped by Squantz Pond yesterday and spoke with the manager of maintenance about the status. She pointed to a big pile of tree trunks down by the boat launch parking lot and said that was the last of the debris to be processed. The launch was opened and she said that they were not anticipating any more closes on the Squantz side even though they still had a bit more work to do to get rid of this pile. In any case, she said it would be open this weekend. But the Park's Division seems to go at their own pace and many times misses their projections so I can only report what was said yesterday.
