My son and I spent the day looking for tog. We came home with 4 nice fish, 18 to 20 inches. Green crabs, a dead stick high low rig seemed to work better than jigs. Quite a few shorts, a few were close. We were fishing small rock piles on the outgoing tide, about 15 to 20 feet of water, water temp was about 61 degrees. It would turn on every so often then slow down and we'd move a bit. We saw a LOT of silversides (?) all around the boat at times, sometimes it would look like something was chasing them but we never saw any decent bunches of fish under them and never got any hits when we did throw something at them. It was a nice day to be out! Let me say something in support of local tackle shops. I never buy anything online any more. There has been a shortage of green crabs lately and the local shops are doing their best to have some crabs and to have alternative baits if greenies aren't available. They need to sell more than just crabs to stay in business, and that's why I don't buy my tackle and other stuff online and then show up to buy my bait locally. Sounds like bottom fishing at it's best. Jigs or rigs is not a big deal to me but I find it much more enjoyable when I can fish without scoping with a jig or 3 oz or less sinker.

Jeff, I hunted a private estate south of Quinby on the peninsula years ago. I friend of mine from Buffalo worked for the owner of the estate. The Virginia DNR wanted a couple of hundred deer shot off of that peninsula but we were after some of the huge bucks that feed in the bean fields. If your cousin can get you on some land for deer hunting or for waterfowl take him up on it.
Those back waters have some great flounder fishing in them. I hear you. It has been a windy last few months. If you want to make sure it will not be windy on a given day; forget the forecasts. Just call me. If I'm going out you can pretty much bet the rent, the wind will be far worse than forecast. I was never a jinx before but now if you looked up jinx in a dictionary you would see my picture.

That's a great trip with your son. Glad to hear you found some good sized porgies. It's been tougher fishing this year for just about everything. When the porgy fishing starts to slow down, you will have to put your spot lock to good use and target black fish.
