Last Saturday I made a trip out to the Race. This was the first real trip with my boat this year, family stuff and my motor had seized up and I couldn't turn the wheel. Engine ran great but I couldn't steer. Well 400$ later now I can steer.
Headed out the the Race early Saturday it was an incoming tide and there were a lot of boats out there so I was hoping someone had heard something. Started out close to Race Rock but didn't mark anything and a bunch of casts later nothing. So I headed over to Valiant reef as more boats were there, too bad the fish weren't there. I did get two small black sea bass one on a whole squid on the bottom and one on a diamond jig. The one on the diamond jig was about as long as the jig.
Then I tried the west end of Valiant, a lot of boats and even some birds working but I had no luck there.

Thank you for your request for an “If Found” sticker. 

Due to the recent overwhelming demand for stickers, we no longer have stickers in stock and are therefore unable to fulfill any requests at this time. We have ordered additional stickers and, once received, we will restart filling requests in the order they were received. Please expect delays.

Did you know that If Found stickers are not required to be in compliance with the new law? Public Act 26-60 requires that all unregistered vessels being used on Connecticut waters to be marked with or have attached to it current and valid contact information for the owner of such vessel, however, the method of identification is not identified in the law. This includes all vessels that are not required to be registered such as paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, small sailboats, and rowboats. 

How to comply-
Vessel owners can attach or print the information in any way they want to as long as the contact information is current, legible, waterproof and firmly attached or applied to the vessel. Ideally this would be an “If Found” sticker from the DEEP Boating Division, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, or local fire or police departments, but due to high demand, the stickers are not currently available.  

 Alternatives include putting your current contact information:
• On a waterproof luggage/identification tag attached by a zip-tie
• On a strip of duct tape with contact information written on it with waterproof marker
• Printed on paper and placed in a plastic bag that is sealed and duct-taped to an interior space of the vessel, or  
• Printing the contact information directly onto the vessel using permanent marker.  

 No matter how one chooses to comply it is important that vessel owners leave the contact information attached the vessel at all times even when exiting, beaching, or storing the vessel so that responders can determine if an unmanned vessel is just lost or if search and rescue is needed.  

What is current and valid contact information?   
• Name. If you do not want to provide your full name, either first OR last is acceptable. 
• Two phone numbers. Two phone numbers are highly recommended. In the event your phone loses power, service, or goes overboard, first responders can call a secondary contact to determine if a search and rescue operation should be commenced.  
 
Additional recommended information (optional): 
• Conservation ID number. A Connecticut Conservation ID Number is a unique and permanent number that is assigned to you by the Connecticut Online Sportsmen Licensing System. This is the number associated with your Boating Certificate, Connecticut Hunting License, or Fishing License. If you wish to have a free Conservation ID Number assigned, please go to the Online Sportsmen Licensing System and follow these instructions. 
• Address. An address can be extremely helpful in the event first responders are unable to make contact via phone, but please take care to guard your privacy where possible (see below). 
 
Privacy Concerns:
 DEEP understands that privacy is a concern for some persons. It is recommended you place your information in the interior space of your vessel if feasible.  The priority is for information to be legible and readily available to first responders. The use of the Conservation ID number can provide better privacy than name and phone number but may delay response time for rescue.

Got up early and went for a stroll at Foxwoods. Got home and said let's rip in the boat. Water temp was 80 at 9 AM. A couple of boats out there. I just wanted to concentrate on one technique. So I was just flipping a jig everywhere I went. Docks, swim platforms and points. Place has changed a bunch since I was last there. Had a nice conversation with one of the lakefront owners. Off the water 2 hours later. .... no fish for me. Got home rigged up some other poles and maybe will get out there tonight when it cools down a bit. Still getting used to this new to me boat. There are restrictions on fishery limits at most levels of the food chain. Limits on shrimp, clams, oysters, lobsters, non-commercial bait collection by fishermen, etc. So why aren't the commercial bunker fishermen being scaled back? Allow a very limited license availability, buy back some of the netting operations, reduce the landings poundages.
The laws are such that they allow the existing businesses to operate from a traditional view instead of the current status of radically reduced bunker stocks. My 13 year old son has started a "business". He is selling/delivering ice this summer in Westbrook. He can supply up to 300lbs if any one needs ice for an offshore trip. He gets $6 for a 20lb bag delivered on his bike cart. Right now he's kinda centered around Pilots Point. If anyone needs ice for a trip give him a shout. I might be able to help him deliver a large order to Saybrook/Clinton with some advance notice.
