I have been hunting hard this season with 60 + hunts many all day and only one Mature buck seen on stand early season and luckily that one went home with me. I've been passing many 2 year old bucks, doe and spikes. We have rifle permission here but deer have been coming through too close to the homes to use it.
I Had three small deer come through in the dark, then while it was still dark had a big bodied deer come to the edge of field following the deer trail but he just stopped and looked into the field and turned around a walked away. Little while later heard one walking below me and could see he was a good buck. At the first opportunity I shot, dropping him, hitting spine.. took a quick follow up shot and he was done.
Buck is pretty thin and no fat at all weight was 175lbs dressed.
I used the CenterPoint crossbow with Rage Hypodermic style Broadheads.
I'm running 11 camera's in this area and I only had three nights of pictures of this buck, one picture early season and only pictures two other nights down the road and across the street from there.
So we need to remember not to base hunts on trail cameras alone!
