Sorry I didnt make it to the festivities aftwrward. Had some things to take care of. By 11 am, my spot was complete mud, and I got swamped 3 times by those cursing-text speedboats. Called it an early day with only 2 short strikes and knowing that was all I was going to get. Paul, I'll get my entry fee to you ASAP! CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS!

What a pleasant surprise the weather was compared to last year! Calm as could be in the morning and not too cold at all. The wind picked up later in the day, but was fine if you were off the main river.

Thanks to all who fished and brought food to share. Thanks to Paul Dona for directing, and Gary & CT Outfitters for donating a $100 gift certificate for 1st place.

Great to see some regular faces and meet a few new people.

Long before there was FaceBook and Instagram, there was ctfisherman.com. Next year will be the 15th annual Piketoberfest! Looking to have a big turnout. We'll set a date early, so everyone can plan ahead.

Here are some pics from yesterday's fishing & fun beerchug ...

Passing of the torch. Bob got off easy!

Congrats to longtime member Bob G. for taking home first place!

Dona, exactly how many members have you guided to first place wins now?!

Davey Dave with a big showing by taking 2nd and 3rd. We attempted a mug hijacking, but Davey was having none of it and wisely locked his prized possessions away safely in the car!

As usual, the post-fishing food was phenomenal. It's impossible to leave hungry at a CTF event!

Kapt was there to provide the tunes and his infamous chili. Eat if you dare!

The traditional Dona pea soup really hits the spot!

Even with a small group compared to years past, the variety and quantity of food was fantastic!

KWK's rabbit stew was perfect! Keith, thanks for the leftovers. I had it for breakfast today.

Fishing bum's ribs were a huge hit!

Thanks to Key West Glenn for whipping up an awesome custom fire barrel the night before!

Scott admiring Fishing Bum's rocking chair.

Thanks to Jeremiah for bringing a ton of hooks to give out to the crew. Great to meet you and hear a few of your traveling fishing adventures!

The Pauls admiring the selection.

Note: If you look in the upper left of that photo, you can see one of the speedboats and the lower unit he ripped off the engine on the right.

Snow in October!

Thanks again to all who came out. Countdown to the 15th anniversary event has begun!

It was a barrel of laughs fishing with Scott J. and Kapt. Here's our fishing report.

It was a great start to the day. No wind and it wasn't too cold at all.

We mainly fished the marinas with a variety of lures and big live bait.

Kapt. waiting for a strike.

Sunrise on the main river.

Kapt scored the lone pike for the day. A 25.5-incher on a large hard yellow jerk bait on the main river.

I got a pickerel on a spinner bait, and lost something small (not sure if it was a pickerel or pike) on dead bait I was twitching, but that was it. Not even one bass for the day. Normally we get a few bass.

Glad we at least got one pike, but of course we hoped for more. We'll get 'em next year.

There was frost on the bow this morning. Ice-fishing is on the horizon!

I guess "whatever floats the boat" laugh .full of crayfish and small bluegill and perch...wow. ....oh yea forgot to thank kapt. for the ac/dc brain /song worm indelibly lodged in my head this morning.better than a hangover.

Bob and I started the day into our area about 30 seconds before Fishingbum and his GF. It was still dark which was my intention. Get in there do some fast moving casting for the aggressive ones then head out to other areas.
First pike was my 26"er

Before that I caught about a 1.5lb LMB which would have made the bass tournament guys a little happy.

Another bass but WTF was he thinking !

10 rolls around and wind kicked up. Thinking to myself wind out of the North, going South with my boat to where I wanted to go was out of the question. Coming back would be a little snotty and wet. We stayed put and pounded the area.
Bob's Champion 35"er

We both got another pike each, and I got a Pickerel, and a nice perch. Oh, and ..........................................................Bob porked the net job on what could have been a 2nd place contender eek2 stirthepot tongue2 Not really, it was barely hooked , but I'll blame Bob. I use 18" leaders and this guy hit right with the swivel at the eye of my rod ! Talk about scaring the s#!t out of ya! That will be engraved in my mind till the day I die!

Bummer Jack couldn't make it but I'm glad Bob and I were able to hook up.

Everyone see the dark cloud before it started to snow ?

Until next year ! Zach S start making plans !

Thanks all, felt really good to hook that fish.

Paul, THANK YOU for talking me into going with you. I was kind of nervous climbing up and down in a boat, locomotives are stabile when I gotta climb.

Now lets see, 2 pages and you've mentioned the net job twice...not bad. biggrin

When are you gonna tell these fine folk that it was a 16" pickerel, and I did you a favor so you wouldn't scratch your hand again? biggrin

All kidding aside, Paul had (notice, past tense) a nice fish that exploded at the boat but was more attracted to the swivel than the lure. The fish was definitely well over 30", but seeing as gimpy stumbled and the fish rolled out of the net we'll never know will we?

Again Paul a big thank you, I'd forgotten how nice it was to fish for pike from the boat.

Gary, CTO...Thanks for the first place prize and all you've done for the sight over the years, and for taking the plaque for the shop. I'll be in to visit it soon, I like 1 oz Daredevles in 5 of diamonds, I only lost one this trip along with Pauls fish (There, I'll get it in there before he mentions it again).

Mitch, Mitch, Mitch...what can I thank you for, nothing? No really thanks for the site...PIKETOBERFEST ROCKS.

I need a ride for next year, my knees will be all better.

Nothing is finer than being in South Carolina

Well, another Piketoberfest in the books!
Team Mean Green/Slapshot stuck to our usual M.O., big live baits & tossing a few lures while watching our floats. After our traditional toast to Channel Matt, we started our hunt. Our first stop produced all our pike. 3 for DaveyDave, 2 for TheRealIceman, and 1 for me. There was also a little pickerel action. The next stop gave up a goose egg, & our last spot yielded a pickerel that got quick released as I lifted it out of the water. It looked like a fishy area but with 2 pm coming quickly, we quit with plenty of time to get back to register our catch. It was a wind driven bumpy ride back.
The picnic was great. Excellent food & company, as always.
Congrats to the winners!!
Thank you Paul Dona & all involved in keeping this thing going. Thanks to DaveyDave for supplying our bait. Thanks to TheRealIceman for supplying our "uniforms" again this year. I think I can say this is my favorite CTF event & I'm already looking forward to next year!!
If any of my team mates want to add pics, feel free.
