Upstate NY angler breaks state fishing record for a white catfish An Albany County man recently broke the state fishing record for a white catfish.
Chris Brockett, of Loudonville, caught the state-record fish – which looks like a cross between a channel catfish and a bullhead – in the Mohawk River on Aug. 22. It weighed 12 pounds and was 30.5 inches long. He caught it using cut bait.
I used to catch white catfish in Candlewood and Squantz drifting live herring for walleye and brown trout. They would run around five pounds and would be suspended around the herring balls. They have a huge head. Never ate one but they probably taste like a channel catfish.
