I fish Margerie through out the year usually.
Mostly from the danbury side.
All though since we got kicked off years ago I havnt been on the ice there much.
We slayed the white perch not many smaller than 12inches, along with some fat yellows and an occasional lmb.
I was curious on whos been out there this ice season.
I'm not asking any specifics on what you used to catch fish, depth or any thing of the sort.

Have any of you been out there?
How have you been doing?
What side have you been fishing.

Yes I was the teen that you remember from the bait shop picture gallary.

The last few seasons have been awesome out there, the problem is the guys that fish it pick it a part. I’m saying everything from 7 inch perch all the way up to giant largies and huge pickerel. I offered one guy we went to school with a white perch and brought over his bucket it was filled to the top with yellows and pickerel.

There should be a limit on panfish, like 15 per species tops. I think 10 is enough.

I agree with the limit. Down in Florida the whiting have no limits in size or possession and they taste better than yellow perch so all of the fishermen from the upper mid-west surf fish every day and keep everything and take home a hundred pounds of fillets for their fish fries, maybe more. I have seen a drop off in whiting catches in the past dozen years of fishing for them. Everything has a pressure point where it gets worse if there are not reasonable controls.

Damn thats crazy John.
I guess when Richie and I went years ago there were other places that people thought were better.
Im fairly dissapointed thatI may miss out on the action.
My son was having fun catching small sunnies and bass through the ice it would be awesome for him to get on some decent size perch pickerel etc.

John how was the ice looking today. We were hoping to get out on sunday to finish off our bait / possibly finish the season

I couldnt go today due to 1 auger being broke and my 8inch auger having a broken blade. My time was limited as well.

Limits do make since but, how often do you think people would get caught.
We used to hit the ice OFTEN, 3-4 times a week at times.
We were only stopped one time outside of candlewood.
I agree with the limits but, I doubt most people care to follow them which sucks!!

Last year I was fishing a local rez. I struck up a conversation with this Italian guy and he was telling me about how loaded the place was with crappie.
He opened his cooler and... same as resdog was saying loaded with every size of fish!

Personally I think to buy bait (not lures rods etc) you should need to show your fishing license.
I figure more people buy bait for their self to go out the next day or the same day anyway, compared to lures which ecan be given as a gift.

Thanks for the information John and Buck, I wish I posted on here asking 3 weeks ago when we first headed out lol

Margerie Res. was always an interesting fishery. Nice place and in my humble opinion it is underfished and realistically I don't think the panfish population is in any danger.

It does get hammered in the winter but the winter season is short and the open water season has no boats and shore fishing is limited and difficult so the rest of the year there is little pressure.

I never knew about all of this hammering in the winter. I guess I'll remember for next ice season.

Shore fishing IS fairly limited especially for the size of the rez.
Hopfully the bucket loads of fish that have been daily removed doesnt have much of a negative effect on the fishing in years to come.
Unless people were always going out from the NF side when we used to go there was rarely anyone there ever on the danbury side.
This was 6 7 maybe 8 years ago so I guess things could have changed.

2019 (last time we fished there) we had decent luck the handful of times we went. Catching quality size LMB.

Mike hammered isn’t even the word... lol the five gallon buckets I’ve seen filled with perch, crappie, whites and pickerel. It’s insane, Was going to end my season there tonight myself but my wife had other plans. Next season for sure. If you still have my number hit me up I know Richie does he’s gills me in on all the good tackle sales lol.

I drive by almost everyday, sometimes two or three times a day. It's easy to see if anyone is out there and I've never seen any numbers of people fishing it like described. Maybe my eyesight is failing like everything else. Numbers like you are describing will get the place shut down like the water dept. tried a few years age over some political tiff with the state

There were a bunch of guys out a couple of Sundays ago including myself but nobody had buckets full of Whites or Crappies.
A group of people that weren't speaking English had a lot of those little Yellows they were keeping.

Maybe the guys I fish with just don't know how to catch them.

Tommy, I highly doubt that, my friend! Marjorie always had tons of stunted yellows and with the size of that body of water and it is big, can you imagine how many five gal. buckets are swimming under the ice??? I would hope that might be diversion from the tons of short stripers being taken out of the Housy!!
